Hi all-- Here in the State of NC--WE are in a gas crisis. People are fighting and pulling guns on each other at gas stations. It is un-believeable. Police are having to be at every gas station at this time as there are currently on a few with. It is a flashback to the 1970's gas crisis. This all statred with hurricane IKE. Prices were jumping before it hit land. So far--30 gas stations have been subpena'd for price gouging-one station was charging $6.00 dollars a gallon the saturday after Ike. They were the first ones on the list under new NC law against price gouging. South Carolina and Georgia are also having same problems. While i do not know if your news in your area has mentioned this--it is creating panic even for emergency services. Some lines here today were over a mile long for the few stations that had gas- which has lead to roads being blocked from backed up traffic. I no this is not a train topic but though it might be of interest. Here is a link below to view the craziness. In the mtns of NC--gas is even scarcer--to the point that in Asheville NC--city transit buses are currently shutdown as there is no diesel available and UNC Asheville is closed as are some schools. This info may not be in the link below.

Hi Brian, I live in the Houston area and we were hit by Ike. We had some damage to our house from Ike and were without power for 5 days. The strange thing is that we have seen gas prices go up about 25 cents a gallon but not close to what you are describing. During the aftermath of the storm there were long lines due to the lack of power at some stations. My parents live is SC and were telling me prices were sky rocketing prior to the storm. Thankfully for my wife and myself we made it throught the storm with minor home damage (also a good thing the train room came through un harmed). Hopefully things with the gas situation will clam down in your area.

| Tom--glad you are OK. Have seen the devastation on news--some places wiped clean completely. There is a place in charlotte that all locals know as "TANKTOWN. " It is where all the fuel is stored and distrubuted. It is piped in and brought in by Tank cars to some distrubitors. Even when there is no crisis with the fuel that close--prices are still high--makes no sense. TANKTOWN is 20 minutes from my house. Will have to get some pictures and post. Glad your family and trains are safe
