This is a cool video of an ore train in Australia. It holds the world record in Guiness as the longest Train

Wow! The Aussies hold the record for longest train...and only driven by one person!

I live in Victoria, where EMD does indeed rule. But the iron ore lines in the north of Western Australia have never been big users of EMD, for some reason. Originally they were mostly Alco.

A browse through the http://www.railways.pilbara.net.au/ site may prove interesting for those that don't know of these lines. They are basically railway conveyor belts and do not connect with other rail systems.

Edit - I just got some nice DVDs on the Pilbara railroads. Great viewing. As one of them says, the Pilbara lines are so remote and isolated that they are rarely visited by railfans. Most Australian railway enthusiasts have never been to them - myself included.
