Today I bought an Athearn rubber band drive F-7 (pic posted in loose ends), but it needs a little work to get it running.
I think we may have had a topic about this a long time ago, but I can't seem to find it. Where does everyone here buy drive bands for their Athearns?
I also need to fix the couplers. Rather than small tabs, they've got little springs (these are horn hooks btw). Standard Athearn couplers don't fit...can I get replacements for these?

Cheez,
I bought a big bag of black hair bands at Wal-Mart that work great, and haven't disintegrated yet.

You know, I actually used some of those hair bands to replace a liquified drive belt in an old LaserDisc machine I have.
They are surprisingly strong!

cheez,
I can help you out in a few months, I will be home then and can get to my parts. I believe I have a couple springs to spare, if you got any meets sometimes you can find parts engines with them on them. I have not been able to find these any were because Athearn does not make them anymore... I have not tried to use the springs off of a kaydee, might want to try that in the mean time. Let me know

I bought some sparkly pink and blue hair bands at Walmart that seem to fit. I can't really run the engine atm though, as the holes in the front truck to mount the axles in are not aligned...the front truck just sort of drags its wheels along (the ones that actually touch the track that is O_o)
Hey Adam. I thought the kadee springs were a little bigger, but then again I use horn hooks so what do I know I'll give them a try and if they don't work I'll let you know. I got the back coupler working though, so that may be good enough.
