I have had this so long and I do not know who makes it. Nothing is stamped on the bottom:

Any ideas?

Athearn 86' Hi-cube autoparts car. There are two versions: 4- and 8-door.
I have that same SP version. In real-life circa 2000 they look awesome weathered.
They are kind of a pain and need extra work to run reliably though. Athearn must have been blowing these out a few years ago because it seems they were falling from the sky for $5-9 each everywhere I went. Should they retool/upgrade for their new RTR line, I bet they won't go for under $30.

Thanks for the i.d. I can honestly say that I have never used it because I never had a siding long enough! I will see if I can use it when I design my new bigger layout.

Athearn made them for quite awile. They were made in different door configerations. Their are other companies making them now. If it's not new it is proably Athearn frank

HEY!
I LOVE THOSE CARS!
oh, sorry...
I have three of them.
Instructions say that a bead of glue/plastic cement at the corners and middle section (between the door(s) section) will keep the chassis from falling out.
Now, what to do with those non-sliding couplers: I may have added this in another post, but here is a tip I have been very successful with:
I am not sure if the KADEE company still provides the tube of graphite. But, before you go searching, do the following:
Any percievable extra flash in the coupler-slide area needs to be polished. Carefully remove any possible flash from the area, either by mould/mold casing or tree feeds. They gotta be taken off.
Next, when those are removed, there are two possible fixes. Both are easily found, but for one, those who don't use pencils might have to search for them.
A dull pencil... unsharpened... if you can finely run the point of the pencil all over the contact areas of the moving parts, that will make a great source of dry lubricant... just short of baby powder. The next idea isn't at the back of my head, but it may if I go bald in 60 years... Your forehead... the natural source of oil... it makes a great lubricant, seriously! AND YES... ear wax!
Pretend you are wanting to read the mind of the end of the exposed floor before you attach it to the frame. That shiny film is great stuff. And it's free... next to the pencils you could possibly find anywhere!
And, one more idea, if you decide the 86 foot-87 foot car will not roam around your layout or supply weight to your files (the paper kinds) on your work bench or desk, put this to mind... How long is this car in HO Scale? 86 to 87 feet/foot. Why? If you lost your pencils as well as your measuring tape, think about it... that car is ONE FOOT LONG. You can't use perfection with a 50 foot boxcar, The 86-87 foot box car, you can.
Okay... well, if you still don't want to use them for these reasons, they make great engine houses.
John
p.s. In the summer of 2007, I saw a slew of freshly painted 80 foot pink Milwaukee Road, red and white Canadian Pacific, blue and white Grant Trunk Western, and tuscan Canadian National boxcars roaming around in Vancouver, BC on a rainy day. What a train... yeah, I know, where's the pictures?
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Actually, I just got the info about them...
The Milwaukee Road used to partner up with the Ann Arbor railroad/shortline. Ann Arbor colour/colors were pink. Well, what I also didn't catch on that day were the reporting marks... the true owner/lease of these cars. Pink or not, they are real... only, being owned by Canadian Pacific... now, what are they hauling? True, no automobiles. They are hauling bales of peatmoss. You can get tons of peatmoss in those cars. Abbotsford is a large agriculture city... if you have ever driven through Abbotsford, you'd be able to smell part of their industry.
No, I don't have pictures. But what I have are facts to the matter. The cars do exist, but you gotta see whose cars they are by the reporting marks.
There are cars in Kamloops, BC... center-beam bulk-flats with AOK on them. That's Arkansas & Oklahoma shortline. They profit more money leasing these cars than they do running them on their own tracks down south.
Canadian Pacific < Soo Line < Milwaukee Road < Ann Arbor
Chattahoochie... have that "X" emblem on their pulpwood cars, CN owns them, leased by Kelowna Pacific Railway...
