I got a mint 430 Alco in VGN, with big yellow stripes with handrails in a rough box the other day. While looking at the Tyco Resource site I noticed that the example there doesn't have the front blue pilot stripes that mine does. Does anyone know antything about this engine and those stripes ?

Bob -- The first one pictured is first issue VGN. The second is one that no one seems to have as it is numbered 1435 and the paint is different. Post a photo of your loco . You may have a unknown version or one of a kind--as it goes with Tyco

I probably didn't describe what I was talking about very well. Thanks for any help. Thanks BriansTyco.

Bob--you definitly have one of a kind. I have never seen that style before. Most have a solid color pilot. That is neat and different. Looks mint and never used also

Mike, Neat, and handsome with the handrails installed! I've only had mine about 10 days.

Hello Alco, I've had mine about two months. I just recently purchased the other VGN, blue with yellow stripe, but it is still in the engine house for cleaning and lube.
I never knew about the pilot stripes until your posting.
Thanks,
Mike

I bought a junk box of HO and there was one of these just like that, in the bottom. Nothing wrong with it except one broken coupler. What years did they make this version?

Just picked up one of these in pristine condition. The paint is much better than the more common one I have. Also like the scaled down size of the lettering. And of course the stripes look great.

I tried and couldn't even win one, now I have 2 and the second came with handrails. I guess I'm getting jaded, I haven't even tested this one on the track. Good to see you posting OoS.
