I know at least one person who will be interested and very happy to see these.
OLD SCHOOL (late 40's - early 50's) Mantua Metal car kits... with paper wrappers/sides!

Three of these were built by me (the silver tanker was a haunt find that triggered my fascination). They are fun to build but the tankers are a bit aggravating to "keep assembled" as you're trying to secure the pieces. Also, the loop-n-hook couplers supplied, do not fit the frame without modification - a significant flaw. Also the paper wrapper for the blue car had not aged well... which resulted in the creases in the body. I was afraid that if I "soaked" the paper to soften it first, it might have disintegrated entirely...
Unfortunately there is a mish-mosh of tucks and couplers in use since while I had three "unbuilt" kits, only one still had its set of trucks, and only two kits had couplers. It's blasphemy to use plastic ones as standins but that will have to do for now.
The silver tanker happens to have Varney knuckles as I found it, presumably becuase Mantua screwed up and their own couplers won't fit unless you file the ends of the center sill (the instructions make no mention of this).
I opted not to fully paint these; part of their charm in these modern times is to appreciate what they were made from.

my hobby dealer (I call him my "pusher") saw me comin' miles away...
he saved me this:

it's a full metal TY/MA combine... the side door does open well, and inside are the two light-bulbs.
but, you may be able to see that on the left end (front?) the paint is starting to crack. Any fixes for this?
thanks!
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

If it isn't flaking off in large pieces you may be able to touch up the bare spots with a brush and then clear coat the whole car. If large pieces are already loose, the clear coat may not hold the paint on the car.

Here's an old timey SF caboose I picked up for $4 I think.

I'll admit Fox trucks look pretty cool, but they were giving me no end of problems on this caboose for some reason. Switched em' out, as you can see.

I picked these up recently. Had to clean them Up. They are part of the IHC Freedom Express Set. That came out a few years ago. Did not get the Engine.
