I can't find a bit of info on this little guy, but I'm sure one of you guys will know what it is.

Brace yourself though, this Plymouth is in really, really sad shape.

I've tried resurrecting it many times, but with no luck. It's just dead.
The sides used to say Great Eastern, and you can make it out under a poor paint job.

I've also got a Tyco hustler that looks like a slightly modified mould of this one?

As you can see, I screwed it down onto a piece of scrap track, and now it has a second life as a track bumper. Waste not want not, huh?

Aye...surely there's a better fate then that for such a neat looking lokey

I'll keep looking in my back issues for it, it's gotta be an AHM or something along that line. Truly a nice piece.

Okay, okay...I'll try to get it working one last time tonight.
And I think I'll sand down that unsightly mess of a paint job as well.

I'll letcha know what happens.

Woo hoo...

I found something in an ad in a Dec. 70 MR that eludes to it possibly being an ATT model but the pic was way too small to make anything of it. The ATT was in a flattened grid like a globe if that helps the more knowledgeable members. I couldn't find anything in HO Seekers.

I think this pic may help, or I could be completely wrong.
But...

/tyco/forum/uploaded/MM 1498/IMG_0816.jpg

this is a Mantua motor is it not? Or at least Mantua styled? Anywho, here's a video for those interested...

We gotta bring Ray in on this one, there's gotta be a way to shoehorn a motor in there. Judging from the way the brushes are mounted, it's got to be a 60s era low end market issue from someone who got swallowed up by AHM, Lionel or Marx.

Oddly enough I think I just figured it out for myself.

This was a small industrial switcher offered by Mantua, (knew it ) listed as "Davenport", not something with siderod in the name. I've just seen it in the 1981 and 1989 Mantua catalogs that Tony has uploaded.

http://www.tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2788

So...anyone know when it was first produced?

Maybe next time I should do a little more research and then ask the "professionals".

Those MU-2 motors are nearly indestructible (unless someone pulls the magnet out), and that one looks pretty minty. Were the brushes not making contact?

One of the brushes was off just a bit, but more than anything it was gunked up beyond belief.

Although the electrical pickup is kinda weird in that the metal sides transfer power to the motor; maybe it was shorting out.

Some time ago Model Power donated diagrams and information to HOseeker about Mantua Models. Mike told me that he could not find the diagram and information about the Davenport Diesel. It seems after numerous acquistions from varies companies a large amount of the original paper information was lost.

Replaced the missing handrails today...this thing pulls a fair bit for it's size.

By the way, I noticed some differences throughtout the years as to the placement of the horn. The one you have there is where the horn originally was on mine.

Do you have an idea of what year yours was made, HOseeker?
