Hey Guys:
Latest addition to my Locomotive roster is a long out of production, Cary GP9 Shell kit. These are the hardest of the Cary Kits to find normally and I was very lucky to get it at a good price.
It will likely be done up in the old Canadian National Paint Olive & Yellow set-up to run long-hood forward and with "Torpedo Tubes" (air tanks on the roof). It'll sit on an Athearn Chassis, likely use an A-Line engine, and should be a nice runner.
Here are the "bare" pics....

Anyone else got a Cary Diesel or Steamer kit?
I also have the Athearn Hustler Boxcab, and an Alco S2 as well as two cary/Bowser FM H16-44's one built the other not...
Best, Gareth

Hmmm, thought the mold was destroyed in the 70's. That may be a typo, in that Cary online catalouge?

Have any pics of either of the H-16-44's? Fairbanks Morse locomotives are my favourite.

In Fact:
I intend to repaint the PRR one in Tuscan/Grey CPR Script, along with the second unit for my, Port Arthur & Fort William Connecting RR. They will both need to be detailed and then painted/weathered

Hey V-HO:
How did you bond the metal shell to the footboards? Glue? Screws? I have one I'm gonna do up as the diesel and another as an Electric with a Pantograph.

Hi Gareth. The Bottom part the Athearn shell will stay attached to the chassis. You need to drill out the holes for the couples a little bit larger so that the new screws will go up though the bottom of chassis, though the coupler into the threaded holes in the casting. The two screws will hold it all together. See Instructions.

I used a Lionel HO Husky chassis. The gear drive is smoother running. Attaches the same way except the couplers are a little harder to mount. Have to use a little nut on the screw above the couple so the coupler stays in place while the screw threads into the casting. Will take some picture soon, that will show how to do it with a Husky Drive. Carl

Hi Guys--Great locos here...love the metal shells. Just a minor point (which most may already know, I was just reminded when I saw the FM labeled as a 'Baby Trainmaster'): A common mislabel is to call an H-16-44 a Baby TM, when in fact, they were the H-16-66's (with 6 axles).

Hey Adams:
THe guy who originally built the PRR 16-44 put the label in the photo. I think you're right pretty much everyone knows.
It's so common in fact that like a 2-8-2T Minarets not actually being a 2-10-2T Minarets it now pretty much is accepted. Maybe not accurate but then most Tyco collectors aren't rivet counters.
For those who didn't know... now ya do!

Hey Ray:
Is the back door open on your SW? Or is it just the paint tricking me? Nice unit!
It's constantly amazing to me, how railings absolutely transform a model train locomotive, particularly contrasting colouredones. You put a Tyco Santa Fe GP20 side by side with the same unit with railings. They just have different characters!

Cool, now I finally know who made this guy:

This Cary EMD SW1500 was built and finished by (and obtained at a show from) Duane Gaddis, whose layout was featured in Model Railroader some ways back; I'm told that either this or the other Rock loco (a GP38) I bought from him (more like it was given to me!!) were featured in the issue but I do not know as I haven't seen it.

This loco is pretty awesome. Sparse and almost crude in detail, I love it anyway for its cartoonish heft... it handily outweighs many locos that are more than double its size - it would take 2 Bachmann DD40X's to equal this thing!

finally got my trains out of storage...
This unit may be foreign to most of you, road-wise. Being that most of the choices in this weeks locomotive of the week is switcher related, here's my offerings: The Alberni Valley MP-15

I paid about $15 for it. Funny, its chassi is 2nd or 3rd generation Athearn, no flywheels, older style motor, cast sideframes... but it's loaded to the hilt with detail, and the couplers are attached to the shell. The front side and upper screens are almost see-thru, mu's... unfortunately, it does not pull as well as it looks. Oh well.
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Mike, Nice SOO! I have the caboose and the Hi-Cube box car, but haven't found a good loco. Also have a Mantua "heavy" SOO box from their last year in business. It's getting harder to find items in excellent condition like that.

Oooohhh my heart's achin' for a Trainmaster.
Well, here's my Mantua Davenport I've been going on about all day. Now that the little bugger is running, I can't stop using it!

It's too bad it's missing all the neat stuff that came with it, like handrails, window covers and one of the headlights. By the way, I run it backwards like that because the headlight isn't missing and it's smoother in reverse.

hey Ken, I see you have one of the Athearn Special Edition C & NW SD40-2 Falcon Service from September 1996, which makes your model 12 years old. Do you have the matching unit?
My First Athearn TM was in C & NW paint... they pulled my trains up and down-hill without much speed change. Very dependable locomotives.
I wanna add my (previously posted TM) demo'. It's Atlas Gold. (credit card purchase, I'm still paying for maxing it out!) I sought, I weakend, now it's out of storage, (like my other stuff.)

I am in love of the paint scheme.
