i have because of costs, and as i want to build up a brief history of american railroads decided to branch off slightly,i intend to put a collection together of rr liveries in the diesel era,but cannot afford the cost of doing it with running or dummy locos so have decided to go for shells preferably complete with handrails etc,so if you have any complete shells you do not need or wanted pm with any answers ken
ps i am doing this to try and get kids to understand the diffence in size between uk and usa, they think usa is as big but not bigger,we have about the same amount of counties as you have states, but its the square area in miles they find hard to grasp, plus it more exciting this way

Hey Ken:

What "area" do you intend to collect, Alco EMD???

I have a few "empty" shells. Have to think about what future they may have...

Does the model manufacturer matter?

make of loco, was thinking 1955 to present main line freight, centered around sd/gp 42 as most mainline used them, with movement sideways for railroads that did not and for age as sd/gp40s started in 65/66 so a short answer would be whatever make has the livery for period,as regards manufacture of model, around athearn as they have more liveries than most and are easy to get missing bits for ken

its a very difficult thing that i am trying to do,originally was going to pick one railroad per state, then i was going to get one of each railroad who had one of each model of loco released, but that would take forever and cost an arm and both my legs,so i compromised,as we all do,and am going for all major railroads and any others that come along, but only one livery per company or rr if you are confused so am i ken
i already have these
santa fe,union pacific,kcs,wisonsin central,vermont,mopac,wabash,southern pacific,southern,l&n,cheesie,rio grande,cn&w,soo,nyc.prr
