Hi Guys,
A few years ago I picked up a LL styrofoam layout cheap.
I have looked on ebay, and Tony's LL resource and can't seem to find the one I have.
I purchased this in the original box,and is a complete layout about 4'X4' and it is one piece, not two or more like the other ones I've seen.
Anyone know when this was made, and what kind of value it has?
The layout is in allmost new condition.

Thanks,
Carl T.

I remember those layouts in stores like Two Guys when I was a kid in the 70's. I have no idea what the value would be, if any. Is it one of those over-under folded loops? I was given one of those in N scale years ago.

Yes NKP the layout is an over and under loop.
When I dig it out of the attic I might replace the brass track with nickel silver flextrack.

I got one of these for Christmas in 1978. I only had it for two years because of a track cleaning solution that I had, melted the styrofoam where the track was. The last time I seen one of these was in 1987 or 88 at ToysRUs. Mine came from "Monkey Ward", (lol!) I mean Montgomery Ward. Wish I could find another one.

Off hand I do not know where to find more information on that. I can however let you know that I played with one of those as a kid. My cousins had one and I would play with the set everytime I went to visit. That was the very early 70's and it's possible it could have been in the 60's. I think the engine they had, not sure if it went with that styrofoam layout or not, was something along the lines of an Illinois Central GP18. Maybe I'm thinking of a different set. Theirs was a simple over and under double loop.

Found this image on the web, seems to be from Tony Cooks site.

The bottom basic 4x4 is what my cousins had.

I had one of those, I probably got that last 1987/88 version. Came with a Toys-R-Us boxcar which fell victim to a smokebomb experiment, LOL. But mine did not include the houses as shown, instead it had an assortment of LL shanty and platform kits. Which suited me just fine, because I'd look at that picture and wonder "how the heck is anyone supposed to get to these big houses, etc inside of a mountain toilet bowl?"

It ran pretty well though, and was surprisingly sturdy... until I tried to punch a tunnel out for the roads (that inaccessible mountain valley *really* bugged me, LOL). That "noiseless roadbed" was actually that, and trains did sound pretty cool. Was a neat setup for its day.

That's the one...I got around the road thing by shaving off the hill by the overpass and building up a road with bathtub caulk...masking tape roads and buildings made from shirt card board finished up my first Christmas with my new bride---who had never seen a "Christmas Garden" until then.

Would be great to see one of these made today. Not like the manufacturing process is diffidult....

I could toss one of these puppies on my drafting board laid flat for some running.

I;m assuming approx 18" rad curves. I did had one as well but wan't allowed to take it on the Ark....
