Hello, I'm trying to get info on a set I had as a kid. My brother bought me the Gandy Dancer set back in about 1960 as I learned from the Red Box page. I've wanted to get one back in my hands but it looks to be impossible so far. Does anyone know if this was a low production set and unobtainable at this point or is there hope? I've managed to my hands on the chrome Santa Fe set that he also had given me. I'll keep my fingerrs crossed.
Thanks

Not just that particular UP set, but all of the Maintenance-of-way style sets (as themed with similar contents dressed in New Yo0rk Central, Reading, and Pennsy names) offered over the years are indeed scarce as such things go, and highly prized. If one does turn up be prepared to pay a handsome ransom. That UP set would be notable for the rare Utility Tank car... and the Derrik Car was very fragile, easily broken, and rarely seen in any condition (let alone intact). That car alone can go for $50 by itself. The snow plow is also a feature rarely seen. So... yeah, LOL... you picked a tortuous one, for sure. But fortune can strike when you least expect it. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. The plow mentioned was on the front of the 0-4-0 engine. I have found the dorm car and the tank car separately. I know about the fragility of the derrick car as I over used the crane myself doing heavy lifts at an age that didn't understand "fragile". It was mentioned that all of the work trains are tough to find now. I guess that means that the set may have not been attractive at the time as far as "flashy" to the eye of a kid, less numbers sold?

Ever notice in those old catalogues from the '60s that the Plymouth Yard Diesels don't have any wheels?
