Vanderbilt University's Media Library has SEVERAL Tyco Train commercials, the earliest being 1977:

No. Date Headline Video Broadcast Type Network Begin Length
1. 11/08/1980 (Commercial: Tyco Trains; Pepto-Bismol.) Evening News
CBS 06:38:10 pm 01:10

2 11/24/1977 (Commercial: First Alert Smoke Detector; Fleischmann's
Margarine; Upcoming Item; Tyco Electric Trains; Baker's Coconut.)
Evening News NBC 05:44:30 pm 02:10

There are more, but you will have to register (for free) and if you are not a member, it will be EXPENSIVE. My suggestion is to find someone affiliated with a library or university.

King Coal, Silver Streak, Chattanooga Choo Choo, and a few others are all listed here...along with all of the other commericals aired between newscasts. A FLASHBACK MACHINE!!!

Why not get a donation from the list to buy a tape of these gems, and find a place to park 'em on the web for everyone to enjoy?

Enjoy.

This is certainly worth some further investigation.

I did find these newscast archives a few years back...one of my other passions is old network TV broadcasts. I collect '70s and early '80s TV recordings with special interest on NBC.

My efforts to get an inter-library loan on these materials failed. Obviously they are rare and not the type of items a library would happily send off to who knows where.

Perhaps with more effort we could unlock this one. [?]
