Hi All,
I was hoping some of you could help me ID this set. The Great One got this set free for me from a Lady who said it was in THE FLOOD and it belonged to her brother. Boy she was not kidding, these cars were just caked with dry mud, dead bugs and some things I don't want to know about LOL! They look great now after a good bath. The item number on the box is 7534 M. I did not find a reference to this set in the brown or red box resource sites. Maybe I missed it. I would like to know the name of the set and what year(s) it was made. I would also like to know what engine came with this set as this one is missing. I did find a piece of paper inside that said these are your parts to super detail your engine and it shows a GP20 with hand rail part numbers. I think it was probably the Burlington Route red and gray GP20. Think there is any chance of saving this box? probably not. I don't want to bore anyone but since it is so dead on the forum today I will give some details on each car.
AT&SF flat with trailers: Says Made by Tyco in Hong Kong (Mantua). Semi trailers have no ridge at the top to be picked up by the loader. Open steps
Western Maryland flat: Says Made by Tyco in USA. Open steps.
El Capitan: Says Tyco. open step. Has a build date that I don't see on my closed step car and this car is more of a brown red color with no gloss.
Trailer Train: Says made by Tyco in Hong Kong (Mantua). Open step. One of the AMC Javelins is missing DANG! Thats OK though as I had no examples of these cars till now.
Gulf Tanker: Says Made by Tyco in Hong Kong on one end and TYCO in big letters on the other.
Burlington Caboose: No markings at all. #2227 inside on roof.

Thanks for looking everybody. Mike

That might be a uncataloged set, possibly made for Sears. As for the engine, the Burlington GP20 might be the correct one. A Burlington Northern GP might work too. The set box doesn't look too bad,I would try to clean off that moldy stuff with some kind of spray cleaner.

Carl is right, a little shpritz with Clorox Cleanup will make quick work of the mold in the carton. From your description, I expected something that had been completely submerged in muddy water.

Hi,
NickelPlate759, I think the trains must have been out of the box at the time of the flood and maybe on the floor. There is more damage to the box not shown in the picture. I just wanted to show the mold. I think the trains were probably thrown back in the box all wet and muddy.
Choochin3, I will look at the sears sets and see what I can find.
Thanks Mike

| I too say a Sears or J.C. Pennys set as both sold similar sets in the early 70's and into the 80's.

Get rid of the mold as soon as possible. Use a mask! You have black mold and that stuff can be deadly.
You do not want to mess with black mold, since it has also come into contact with other water borne organisms.
Remove the destroyed box. I do not believe it will carry value. Just avoid handling the mold, period! Your health is worth more than decrepit cardboard.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Just clean the carton, Mike. No need to panic.
