Hi Tyconutz, What kind of glue is best for reattatching the cellophane windows back inside the boxes? I have a good many that need attention.
Thanks, Carl T.

I have never considered gluing the cellophane, because it doesn't seem plausible. My guess is that a rubber cement could work, but you'd more likely have a mess on your hands from trying to get a sparing amount of rubber cement in place, only where you want it, without breaking the box apart and flattening it down.
White glue might work but will not adhere as well to the plastic film, so you may have the problem again in the future. And once it squeezes out to the visible area (which it will) you won't be able to remove it.
Remember that the windows were originally glued in when the boxes were laid flat and probably uncut. So, unless you do that, how are you going to keep the window in place while it cures? Dented or creased cellophane will forever try to pull back away from the box. You'd have to cram something in there for pressure while replacement glue sets.
I usually tape the "short" ends of the cellophane to the interior of the box. This is sufficient in most cases. You can't see it from the outside. And if you tape the short ends down, they will stay in place when you push the car and/or insert back in... which keeps them from snagging and curling up again, making it unnecessary to glue/tape the long sides.

Thanks Tony, The tape method sounds like the best choice. That glue can get a little messy.

I think I'd use fresh cellophane. I'd butter the inside of the window , box, carefully with glue stick glue on and custom applicator, a nail file etc., Then roll out the cellophane from one end and use a ruller to press it to the box. You might also apply the glue and flip the box so you could lay out the cellophane on the back of the box and flip it or lift it into place.

Hey All:
Has anyone opened their boxes and repaired the cellophane, and then reglued?
If so;
how did you open the box along the long axis?
When regluing after repair how presentable was the glued long side of the box?
Thanks, Gareth

BTW I suggested a glue stick and it didn't work well in my test.[V] Maybe someone else had better luck. I bought a new roll of clear cellophane for $3.49 at an art supply store chain.
