Hey Guys:
Since we have some clever and humorous fellas here, I thought I 'd pose this question to ponder.
I am working on a Layout idea based on a mid-`50's RR based in what is now Thunder Bay, Ontario.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunder_Bay,_Ontario
Until 1970 when they were merged there were two cities Port Arthur and Fort William. It's not far from the US border near Duluth Minnesota, on the shore of Lake Superior.
GIC's St.Canard I usually refer to as the "Ducky" because of canard in french meaning duck as in the waterfowl. No similar inspiration for the PA&FW so far. Any help would be appreciated. Humour is good, irony even better! [:D]
If you need more info, please ask....
Thanks, Gareth

Hey Ken:
Nicknames for my RR, based on the name above if possible but I'm open to suggestions as long as they fit the region/area!

There's probably a lot of acronyms you could make out of PA and FW. For example, the old Quanah, Acme, and Pacific was once nicknamed Quit Arguing and Push.....QAP....The Wichita, Brazos , Trinity and Sabine was the Wobbly, Bobbly, Turnover and Stop...WBT&S. Ken may know some from Britain, as I seem to remember reading of a couple of humorous slogans there.

Gareth, not sure how much fun you want to have with this, for names how about something like Snowbird, White Feather, Bay Shore, Snow Bay, or maybe a take off of the god of thunder...something around the names Thor, Hammer, Lighting, Thunderbird, since it is near thunder bay, or thunderbolt... I like the idea around Thor...
Thor rode in a chariot pulled by two goats, could give you their names if you want, that he could eat if hungry and bring back to life as needed...also his hammer was called a mjolnir...which might be a cool name... hope this gives you and the guy's some ideas...Garret
ps remember that jupiter was thunder in roman and zeus was in greek if you want to go there ...just love that mythology...

I'm hoping for a one word name for it.
Using Thunder would be great but I'm not sure how long the name Thunder Bay was in use for the bay itself before the twin merged cities changed their names?

So according to the "fanged one" it's been Thunder Bay for 200 or so years! Now so, what "Smoke & Thunder"? Remember the sensibilities would come from say 1900-1950. The nickname should reflect those times...

| I thought about looking at mascots--a quick search found that Thunder Bay has a summer baseball team called the Thunder Cats. I also found some kind of character up there they call the Zoose Moose. That probably helps nothing at all!

How 'bout: KikenYor Rumbolseet Regional Railway
Kick in your... Rumble Seat As like, A kick in your bottom...
Old'ish, older cars of the '50's had rumble seats.
That's my $0.02 CA idea.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Since it was right on the shores of Lake Superior, how about "Superior Service".
When you say nickname I'm not really sure if you're looking for a roadname or a motto. I've given you a motto of course. It also sounds very "50's-ish".

I would try to derive something from the railroads sub-letters. Thats how most railroads get their nicknames such as -
Western Maryland = WM = Wild Mary
L&N = Loud and noisey
CSX = Chicken S*&t Xpress
