While many of you may not live in an area that has tornado's-- I do. I was fortunate but just 2 miles down the highway is destruction--trees--power lines and homes and buisness destroyed or severly damaged. The tornado -- an F2-- traveled for 7 miles and hit at 2:30 am Friday morning the 9th of May. Will get a few photo's up shortly.

Here is aerial footage from local news. The trucks that were flipped over is 2 miles from my house.

Hello Brian, glad to see you and your family are safe.

While we in Ontario deal with some harsh winter weather (snow and ice storms) here and there, you have the unpredictable things like tornados!

I hope those affected get back to normal life as soon as possible.

Glad to hear you're safe, Brian. A friend in Tennessee from the Model Railroader forum just escaped an F2 that tore through his neighborhood. This Spring has been a bad one storm-wise.

mytyco -- Mike --- Nickel Plate -- Thank you all. The storm cleanup will be ongoing for the next few days. many of the roads are still closed close to me. Most of the power has been restored but some are still with out. There was little warning due to the time it hit. This one came fast. The south has had a rough stormy spring starting out. NC and TN have their fare share of twisters.

same with ours! not tornadoes or anything like that. Amy, Kansas got it. we are not very far away from Amy but we did not get tornadoes. But we got BAD t-storms (thunderstorms)!

Good to hear you made it through unscathed. That makes two of us here that have narrowly dodged twisters in the past couple months. We did get pegged with a tree and then got the wet basement later on though. Not that I should complain.

Good to hear that you are ok. Tornados are downright scary. To this day I still remember everything from October 3, 1979 when an F4 twister ripped through the area of Connecticut I lived in. Tons of damage and a few killed. It destroyed the Bradley Air Museum and entire neighborhoods. I was at school in 4th grade at the time. Even 7 miles away from the tornado we could hear it, and the teachers made us take cover in the hallway. Scary beyond belief....not something I care to live through again.
Glad to hear all is well with you.

Update--Today is Sunday May 11th 2008. Another tornado touched down 15 miles west of me. Damaged is being assessed and as soon as they get some video up i will link. CSX runs throught his area where tornado hit. This area of NC is known as Tornado alley. It is Lincoln County NC. WE had severe stroms and damaging hail that covered the ground and caused accidents. Some areas looked like it snowed or iced heavily. The hail was up to 2" in diameter. I hope you all are safe in your locations. Thank you all again for the replies and comments.

thetycoguy--yes my Tyco's made it ok--but some others that i may not know about in my area that may be enthusiasts may not have been so lucky.

cairnterrier--Thank you--1979 would have been my 2nd and 3rd grade school years.

It's good to hear you're ok and after watching the video it seems everyone was very lucky. Life and death are a matter of inches sometimes.

Tornado's scare the heck out of me. I experienced being in one in NJ back in the late 70's - early 80's. At 2pm in the afternoon it became pitch black at my parents house, then the noise, then I ran like hell into the basement and curled up like a baby under my dads work bench. We were lucky, it jumped our property and touched down again about 200 yards away.
