... I thought perhaps you'd enjoy a "hidden" section of my website. I'm assuming it hasn't already been brought to your attention, of course.
Disastrous Chapters in Model Railway History http://www.hobbiesplus.com.au/disasters.htm
Enjoy!

That was a great way to end the week...enjoyable...Garret , a.k.a. puppyfang.....
"Though amid all the smoking horror and diabolism of a sea-fight, SHARKS will be seen longingly gazing up to the ship's decks, like hungry dogs round a table where red meat is being carved, ready to bolt down every killed man that is tossed to them . . ." by Herman Melville

lolol. Some funny things there. I like the "slotcar" train set. Do you know how they banked that curve? I've wanted to do something just like that so I could set up a track for my Tyco Turbo Train (which looks very similar to that "slotcat" train set up)[:D]

I made all the items on those pages. So I can tell you how I made the banked curve. Very slowly and with plenty of tedium. [:D]
I just gradually bent the rails by hand. It's difficult to get right, and without snapping the rails out of the ties. I ruined a couple of bits of flex track before I got that one you see in the photos.
I was unaware of Tyco's Turbo Train when I built the 'model'. Or rather, I'd forgotten about it. However, the Tyco version didn't have the chicane or X-over tracks. [;)]
The ride-on F9 was inspired by a cartoon in MRC or MR. As far as I know, the other items are all originals.

You made these??? I thought they were pictures you took of some museum exhibit! lolol. VERY NICE WORK!![:p]
I'll have to try bending the track like that. And no the turbo train didn't have any of those crazy crossovers, but it DID have a jump[:D]

Yes, and the Turbo Train did at least work - or was intended to. I saw plenty of kids at the exhibition wanting to see my one work.
I built the items over a few years and decided to put them in a glass cabinet at the model train show. I had a trade stand there, but I didn't tell anyone I was bringing an extra display. I just set it up against a wall opposite my stand and observed the reactions. I am a member of the club that put the show on, so I knew there's be no problems with the extra uninvited display. [:D]
The loco is Life~Like. It was modified by me perhaps 15 years earlier and yes, it really does run on 2 wheels. With some careful throttle manipulation, it will run as an 0-4-0T and can be made to suddenly go up on two wheels. The kids love it. Although harder, it is possible to get it to go back on 4 wheels without stopping. It can't go through turnouts on 2 wheels though. If you have one of these locos and want to try this yourself, all you need to do is remove the weights in the side tanks and remove the rear coupler and coupler pocket. You may need to experiment with a little extra weight under the cow-catcher to get the balance right. But apart from that, it is a pretty straight-forward conversion.
