This is the stripped and repainted Silver Streak shell that is now the home to the Sting "Ray" II, SRII, after Ray Marinaccio's first PC C430 Alco, replacement motor project that I first posted last Tuesday. It still need handrails and some safety paint and that will be it. It's a natural for the NS Logo. Hopefully it looks as if Tyco did it. It runs good.

Looks great! The 430 was a natural for black paint. Would love to see a PC unit *properly* done in black plaint too.
The roadnumber font almost matches the one Tyco used in late 60's production runs too.
Excellent work!

Hey AF:
Whats the etymology of the loco's name again. I know it was derived from a Ray M Prototype.

Hey AF,
Nice 430!! And yes, I am a bit of a rivit counter. But what the heck, It looks good!! Do you have a hand rail set for it or do you need to bend some rod?

Thanks for the kind comments folks! SR is Sting Ray" as in Ray Marinaccio, II as the second prototype after Ray's first replacement. I know that's a car name but I thought the SR sounded right. I thought about other changes like a real plow and hoses but this is neat too. If I do another C430, and you know I will, I think I'll shave the grab irons a little where heralds are on the ends because the decals didn't want to lay down very well. I used Shell decals. I may use the handrails I bent for my earlier CSX Alco

Cheez, Thanks. I used Pinesol first. I was trying to strip the just lettering and I left it soaking to the point where it broke through the chrome. Where it did revove the lettering it left a ghost image with perfect chrome. Then I used chameleon stripper, I think.

Did the pinesol have any effect of the shell itself? I had some bad luck with an Athearn PA-1 on the weekend. Thing melted in acetone after only about 45 mins. I'm being extra careful now.

No, the tough Tyco C430 Alco shell suffered no damage. Sorry about the PA-1. The last Athearn I painted was an Undec. I'll have to be careful of that. Thanks for the reminder.
