Today I decided to take the plow off a $2 Alco 630 and put it on a much better PHII example. I was suprised to see it was a complicated as it is with the 2 vertical supports that go up the inside of the steps. I didn't notice that this one had a little damage until it was removed.
I used a small screw driver to pry the block off one of the steps and was suprised when it didn't just swing down or out. The vertical post held it in place but I nudged it a bit and then and it was loose.
After looking at the plow and reading GiC's reply the top tab did come out very easily and could break if not careful. If I were to do it again I'd wedge something gently in the top step to loosen that peg while I loosen the block on the bottom step. The other side should slide loose then with a little manuevering.

Congrats for removing one and keeping the tabs in place! Very tough to do.

I don't mind breaking the smaller, outboard ones myself. The steps look better without that bottom tab filling them up IMO.
