It was good to get back to the old club last Sunday. I got there a bit late(nothing new, there!), but I got my first Chattanooga steamer(VG-excellent, no box) in a deal with an ICG 630 and matching caboose(Good-VG, no handrails, no boxes) for $8.

Haven't opened it up yet, but the steamer is the version w/ the high mount headlight. It has a die-cast smoke unit, and is missing, or was made w/o, a lead truck. The brass bell on top of the smoke filler stem is a sickly-looking skinny thing, like the maker wanted to use the next size smaller rod. Also, at first I thought it had all its tender steps, but I now see they are all broken off short. Still, it looks good. [:)]

I'm thinking I'll make up a new tender frame to fit the shell's slots, and fit the most appropriate Tyco trucks. Maybe also add some handrails. I still want to work on a way to have the drive in the engine, w/o sacrificing the smoke unit. I just now noticed how close the wheel spacing in the tender PT unit is, to that in the engine... [}:)]

Went to my other old club today. First thing, I bought a Tyco Broadway trolley, like new but no box, for $6. My childhood trolley had a worm drive, but this one is a PT. Also, a nice boxed Lifelike U.P. GP-38 w/ matching caboose for $7.50.

At our auction, I bought 3 lots:

-2 powered Amtrak F40 PH's, a Bachmann, and a Lifelike, both NIB, for $7.50;

-a Lifelike powered Chessie GP-38, excellent- except for one missing handrail stanchion(up front, not easily noticed,) no box, for $5;

-8 like new, boxed cars, all for $16: Lifelike Juicy Fruit boxcar, probably wrong box; AHM Milk Duds boxcar and Sugar Frosted Flakes reefer; Tyco Dots boxcar, Hires reefer, Gerber's reefer, Union 76 tank car, and Planter's covered hopper.

So, no huge bargains or first priority stuff, but not terrible- especially since I got there so late.

I was surprised to see that the Lifelike engines featured pancake-motored trucks, which, in at least one case, was hand backdrivable!
