Hey dude. Nice gondola. Is that HO or O scale?

This is one of my Tyco CN streamliners. They were made 1967-68 and are dual lighted. Out of all the paint schemes Tyco dressed they're streamliners in, this is probably my favourite.

There was a lady at the local Greenberg show today selling
brand new assorted Bachmann freight cars for a $1.00 each.
She had cases upon cases of them.

We bought ten dollars worth.

This was the most unusual one of the lot...

I have never seen a car like this.

Hi All,

This is one of the items I picked up at Bills before they close this week.
It's a red box Tyco C&O caboose. It is marked Mantua on the inside of the long roof. It also has a white spacer on the rivited trucks between the body and truck. Anyone seen this before?

Thanks for looking!

Hey Mike. My other Tyco CN observation car (not the one pictured) has white spacers between the trucks and body. I was wondering about them too because the rest of the set all has black spacers.

Gentlemen:

"Let's please be careful of our choice of words on the forum. Remember we do have a wide audience and variety of ages."

Now I don't know who actually wrote the above line.... Tony it would appear editied the original post, or possibly somone else, but I have this to say:

If you feel such a desperate need to admonish people for their verbiage or language I suggest you give some consideration to other peoples freedom of expression before you engage your fingers on your keyboard. Perhaps the idea of a pluralistic society with a seperation of church and state eludes some.

If the word "Hell" is so offensive to you that it causes you to be filled up with a desire to CENSOR someone then I suggest confining yourself to forums where only maiden spinster Aunt's gather. To my knowledge our yougest member Cheez is about 14 possibly 15 now and I'm pretty certain that in the public school system of Ottawa, Canada the term Hell, and several somewhat more callous terms have passed his ears.

So as is popular during the Primamry season this year in the US let me say this:

"I REJECT and REPUDIATE" the censors who feel the need to admonish others as to what is appropriate to say in an essentially public place. This is not a true matter of modesty or decency at all. Rather someones callow attempt to impose their sense of civility in an arbitrary and puritanical action.

Don't buy into it. Thats how freedoms are eroded.

-Gareth
PS: Some may find my response pretty aggresive. If thats true it's because I spent the latter part of my youth in harms way during the Cold War making sure people had the freedom to choose what they would say, and not be controlled by some Orwellian despots.

I agree. I don't mind curbing my tongue, so as not to actually hurt another person. However, I find the likelihood of actual injury highly unlikely- save, possibly, for the use of certain epithets.

I very much do mind having my liberties abridged and my actions punished, because others deem them merely offensive.

Gareth,
I don't think the offending word was hell, but the use of God****.
That might offend a few people, and is not appropriate on a forum that young folks can access.
It's allmost like saying the F-word,or S***,or some other cuss word.
I am aware the Da Cheez is the youngest member here, but what about the kids not registered.
That's all I have to say about that.

Well Carl:

You may be right about what term I was admonished for. Having said that; I don't agree that "God-Dammed" is an inappropriate expression. The reason I don't, is I don't believe in any kind of deity or Theistic invention for whom that would have a real, physical meaning.

The other epithets you mention are intended to breach a sense of bodily modesty which is part of their attraction to some. There is some common ground there. Age specificity could be argued in that, whereas the term I used is really a matter of metaphysics beyond the abstract reasoning of children.

Usually I actually spell it "Gawd-" to make it clear the I'm not referring to someones religous figurehead but rather as an expression.

There could it's true, be kids who are looking at the forum younger than Cheez, but I would wonder what parent with those kids would allow access to any non-child specific site? Considering the characters that lurk on the internet that is reckless.

Now I'm empathetic to some peoples desire to not hear certain things in our society. However I value my sense of right and wrong as much as anyones and am not prepared to censor every word or expression because someone doesn't like it. I rarely use it, and will reserve my right as a free-born person to do so.

I hope from what I've written, that there are things I'm obviously not prepared to say "in the open". Conversly however there are epithets which I believe create emphasis and are useful tools in the english language that I am not prepared to relinquish because they make a minority uncomfortable.

I hope that clarifys my position. If you really want to debate this, please use my email or PM me.

Pax,
Gareth
PS: If it is the use of GD'd it wasn't in this thread! [^]

Hi All,

WOW! OK, now that that's out of our system and I have put my dictionary away LOL! DaCheez and I are wondering about the white washers on the caboose trucks we asked about earlier in this post. Anyone have any idea of the time frame of these and if they are only used in the red box era? Or any little nuggets of trivia about them.

Thanks
Mike

Hey romcat and mytyco. I don't know anymore about the washers than you do. I checked out 15 red box streamliners, and I found that the cars had a mix...some had black washers and some had white. It doesn't seem to be based on the time period they were made either. I found that my B&O set all had black washers, except for the combine which had white.

-cheez

BTW, i forgot to mention that the brown box streamliners and freight cars have different trucks and dont have washers. So the washers, both black and white, were only used pre-brown box.

oooooooooookay....

Here is my entry of the... week?

It's a Austrian ROCO.

Quite detailed considering it's about 40 years old.
One thing that is interesting are the side panels. They seem to be tiered. When you face it from the sides, it is like the panels closest to the ends are on the bottom, with the next ones being over-lapped as you get closer to the doors.
The ladders separately applied is also nice.

John

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.
"I love your catenary!"
Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?
