Refreshed 7-20-09 for HOSCALEMODELRAILROADER
This post is to show the workings of the operating electric piggyback loader/unloader available from Tyco beginning in 1972 and last cataloged in 1979. Both sets come with 2 trailers/1KW C-O-E truck/flatcar/paltform base with operating tractor loader and controls all hardwired. No straight track is included. The one i have is from 78/79 with the Burlington Northern trailers and is Tyco #927 which identifies it as having the BN trailers. Set #933 has the Santa Fe Trailers. Ironically-the bases on both sets have "Tyco 933 operating piggyback loader/unloader" stamped underneath the based in raised letters. This is a very neat working Tyco accessory. Oiling the motor bearing and gears and the slide underneath the paltform dock where the tractor moves greatly helps the operation. This one was sluggish and sqealing from sitting over the years at first-but after oiling and running a few minutes-lust like new. Should you have to replace the motor in one--it ishould be fairly easly as it is held in palce by a metal bracket w tabs that can be pryed loose. It has a can motor for the slide and a can motor inside the tractor for raising and lowering forks. To replace motor in tractor--the control arm link must be removed and tractor slid forward toward track. The tractor is controlled by a controller that has up and down for fork movement and in and out for tractor. The base has a indented line for landing gear and raised sides for placement of trailer wheels to be lined perfectly for lifting and placing on flatcar. Alignment of flatcar on track must in right position before placing trailer on car. Photo's below and video link to you tube of working accessory

Brian, I'm with Ray, Thanks. The video was excellent and the accesory is awesome. Are they rarest of the rare cause I don't think I've ever seen one?

Ray--You're welcome
Alco Fan-- Thank you--wouldn't say they are the rarest of rare--but the ones on ebay in the last 2 weeks have sold for over $50.00 which includes both versions. I have actually seen more of the Santa Fe versions listed than the Burlington Northern on ebay.
DaCheez-- Thank You. It is a fun Tyco accessory. Glad you Ray and Alco Fan enjoyed the video.
Added 3-23-08-- Since this post with you-tube video link--I have been tracking the ebay sales of these over last few weeks. On average--there have been 2 or more listed weekly with final bids over $50.00 and some higher. Most started in the $9.99 range mint sealed box and a few were used and still fetched around $50.00.

Actually, I've been watching those since late last year and they've been going for that range even well before your post. In fact, numerous accessory items that were once cheap have been going pretty high lately. The plentiful Operating Hopper sets (with trestle and load)... even the Virginian variety, have been fetching $30-40! The mail car set gets ever more mind boggling as well.
I fear that ebay's new "masked bidder" policy is going to encourage rampant shill bidding as well. I've spotted and turned in more than a handful of shillers over the years and got their accounts suspended... but if you can't see who's gaming you, you can't prevent falling the victim. [B)]

I just got a 933, on box, brown box piggyback loader/unloader with box and red Dodge tractor tractor but no flatcar or trailers. The base and ramp are dirty like it sat in sunlight or a smokers home It runs ok but I was wondering whether you could oil the fork lift without removing it from the base. The actual auction cost was under $10. Any other maintenance tips out there?
BTW after I posted this I read the original post which I'm sure I read a long time before getting one. Very useful.

How did you manage THAT?! I had a Seller once send me a 2nd chance offering literally 5 SECONDS after I lost the bidding at the last 2nd....are you telling me that's not SHILL bidding?! And Ebay did nothing, I complained, they said how do you know it was a shill bid? HOW can a seller send you a 2nd chance only 5 SECONDS after the auction ends and it NOT be a shill bidder? I'm sure Ebay had to have been able to track the time frame between the end of the auction, and when the 2nd chance offer came. It had a date and time in it! They did nothing that I am aware of. Now, this has been 7-8 years ago, maybe things have changed since, but I'm rather cynical of Ebay's "protecting" ANYONE but themselves now. So far, I've had a few bad packaging experiences, and not left any feedback due to that, but for the most part, I've never bought anything real expensive, nor sold anything that would invite dishonest activity. Another time I got a nasty note from a seller, telling me I had a 2nd chance offer, and if I didn't accept it, they'd report me for non-payment. I had to ask Ebay about that, they said I didn't have to accept it. But again, they did NOTHING To the Seller sending me that message and offer. again, long time ago, maybe things have changed. But I"m still not sure Ebay is on anyone's side but their own these days.

I bought mine a few weeks ago at a Greenberg show,it came as a package for 15.00 with a "lighted factory." Mine came with the flatcar and trailers but is missing the Dodge.

Are you going to use yours on a layout ?

Those are pretty common imo. You have shown some very nice items you found at yard sales and such so I'm suprised you haven't already picked up a few that are unboxed.
