Here are some more new colors and releases I just picked up today 2-3-08 at my local Walmart. The selection of these were plentiful--over 3 cases of them full--a rarity. They had some AMC rambler's but did not pick none up this time. The new ones are the 71 Ford Mustang sportster and the 1975 Mercury Bobcat-a pinto spin-off. The 1984 Ford Tempo keeps showing up in new colors--metallic silver on this one. The mustangs are blue metallic and brown metallic

It's a Matchbox Collectible Series...some say they aren't HO scale but I'll put them up to any of my other HO model trucks any day. I got it to erk my brother-in-law into coughing up one of those Overnite trucks as he works there. He finally did---about 2 weeks after I got one.[:D]

There should be a couple new ones coming, I believe two Japanese cars and a Ford Maverick. The last one is a surprise, which they like to do now and then. I'm not sure if the Chrysler Town & Country is going to appear any time soon (announced on their website). Of course, to get those new ones to actually turn up in your Wal-mart, the ones out now will have to pretty well sell out first.
GM has a rule that they won't license for production cars that do not pass a federal choke-tube test, which simulates what happens if a child should try to swallow the toy. So although they do cars like the Vega, Monza, etc. in other scales, they probably will not turn up here. They have to be more than just over 2 inches long to pass the test.
But it's hard to say because the Malibu International "Reel Rides" series recently issued a 1983 Cadillac Eldorado which is fairly short. They may have messed with the proportions of it to make it pass the test, they seem to have body sides which are too tall and give the top a chopped look. That series has a few more new vehicles announced as well - interestingly yet another Pontiac Trans-Am is one, this time the Knight Rider TV car.
Look for a VW panel van and Mercedes panel van in the black box Malibu offerings. I've seen exactly one of each and all they need is some leftover decals to be good delivery trucks on a layout.

Went to their website today and they are showing a future release for an 82 Honda Accord and the Ford Maverick in 1/87 scale. No date mentioned for release yet.

I really lucked out today, I went out to Wal-Mart today and found 3 FULL CASES OF FRESH CHERRIES!
Unfortunately, my budget limited me to 3 cars, but there's a Fresh Cherries Series 3 out with some GREAT pickups in it.
Here they are. The VW Bus is from Malibu however.
L to R, a 1956 Ford F-100, 1960's VW Bus, and a 1940 Ford pickup. I also saw the F-100 in a very light blue sort of colour.
I think they may have caught on to us model railroaders buying these things like hotcakes, because vintage Ford pickups don't really fit in the with whole 70's retro theme Fresh Cherries has.
By the way, did I sleep through Fresh Cherries Series 2?

Hey, I got a neat set of cars from Malibu this Christmas...I really like the VW Bug and the Shelby Cobra included in this set. Try not to mind the blurry pictures.
Oh, and if you're reading this GoingInCirclez, I'd like to see the modifications you've done to the Granadas I sent ya!

These look a lot like Model Power mini-metals, right down to the packaging display box. Does Fresh Cherries sell their models under different names for distribution reasons?

Yes, the Model Power cars and the malibu / Fresh Cherries were some of the same cars. I think the same generic Chinese company makes them all. Fresh Cherries as a series has folded, they're remaking the 1/64th FC cars under the American Grafitti series, but not sure if the HO cars will be available other than under Model Power ( and $1 more expensive to boot ). Since China is a state-run enterprise system, rather than capitalistic, it's hard to track down their manufacturers, since they don't "brand" their companies who make things. So it's hard to get info on who is actually making them, and their decisions to sell what here, from what I've gathered searching the Diecast websites. All we can really do is wait to see what shows up on shelves with this maker. I miss my AMC HO diecasts from them, I bought hundreds when they were available. Leave it to China to be the only company to make AMC diecast because no one ( other than Johnny Lightning/RC2 ) seems to do so. I've been trying to get them to make some HO scale as well. So far, no luck.

I thought they looked familiar. Thanks for the info, AMC_Gremlin_GT. Maybe the rights switch back and forth so when Model Power discontinue a range, Fresh Cherries could make a comeback. I like the 70's autos and they suit a Tyco/Tyko layout very well.

Yes, they never labeled them with a scale, but I'm assuming they were HO, judging by their size. Maybe a hair bigger. I bought plenty of the trucks 2 years ago when Wal-mart was putting them out for $1 on clearance. They haven't been back since.

Fresh Cherries was Motor Max and unrelated to Malibu International/Model Power, which are the same vehicles in slightly different packaging. You cannot interchange one to the other's box, the boxes are similar but not identical. The Malibu trucks are HO scale. Some stores still have a few, one here has them at $3 a shot, finally moved to a clearance table.

Pop quiz for Petrolheads! Below is a punnet of Fresh Cherries, part of a birthday pack I was lucky enough to receive last night.
The cars are mini-metal masterpieces but there's nothing to identify each one. The Ford Escort's obvious, I'm not familiar with the others or old American autos in general so please name them if you can. A closer look: No prizes but any help wins my gratitude plus serious 70's car cred.
