Growing up in Nebraska on the BN Alliance Coal line I have seen the aftermath of several coal train derailments. Always seem to happen on the coldest days in winter. Not sure if the cold does something to the rail or the wheels? With 45-60 trains a day and lots of unprotected crossings there are lots of train vs car collisions at night as well. Going out in March to visit Parents and do some railfanning. After that video i think I will make sure I am a little further away from the tracks than normal!

Wow....what a mess! I can only imagine how hard the impacts must have been to completely tear a locomotive in half or to crush the cabs like empty beer cans. Scary stuff here.
