Hey Gents,
What's the noise out there about the big auction. Did any of us get lucky? I didn't!

Are we all talked out on this subject? Surely some of you have something interesting, informative or otherwise to say about those items.
I thought I had a chance to win somthing, but didn't.

I thought I might bid on a few items, but it quickly became apparent to me that the prices were going to la-la land. So I just watched for curiosity's sake.

Sorta reminded me of an auction of G scale trains and scenery from 3 years ago I went to (it was 1 mile from where I live). There was furniture that was auctioned first, then when the trains were started it looked to be maybe 15 people there total. Item after item sold near (and often over) new prices for the same items (most things were 10 years old or less). It quickly ended up most of us just watching two newly rich guys overbid on item after item (I think one was a doctor, the other a lawyer).

It got so absurd that after one crazy bidding match, the auctioneer stopped and said "Let's hear it for bidder #xx". All the auction staff started applauding crazily, a few people clapped politely, while the rest of us had expressions saying WTF???? I used to go there maybe once a month or so, but I think that was the last time I went there.

I think the big winners were Dan's Trains and Ebay for the commisions they made.

One of the things that has lead me back to mass-market HO is that it is a great cheap thrill. I don't need no pathologically-competitive PIGS ruining it! [:(!]

Having thus ranted, I'm guilty too, for buying on ebay, and basing my present evaluations of items on recent ebay sales. I've had difficulties getting out in recent years. But, I am looking forward to getting back to the train clubs, swap meets, and yard sales.

I guess since oil prices have gone up so has everything else. Must have been some crack smoking going on at Dans train depot in the last few hours of those auctions is all I can say. Maybe some of those guys will be around in about 30 years when I sell all my stuff so I can retire early.

I'm with you on that one Budman. Since i have been buying Tyco-the prices have risen dramtically on certain pcs in the last few months. As someone said on the forum elsewhere-"Tyco is the New Lionel" or it is becoming it fast.

Lionel collectors have different opinions on what kind of car it is.
Most say its a Desoto but some say its a Plymouth...depends who you ask.
Heres a link to one...

BTW, what did I miss? Did a collection of some Tyco big wig hit the market recently?

Thanks. At first glance I thought, umm so what, but I know the devil is in the details. I like that Canada Dry car, I probably would have gone after that myself.

Yes Sir Todd,

There were some real gems peeking out of the piles... But, I’m afraid that this forum will not see much of them…

Good Bye and Good Luck…
