I guess with 119,000 units made this will never be rare. Check me if I am wrong guys. This car is the not the newer Mehano tooling because the door is not as wide as the new one? This car is the production version and not something different than produced? Please inform the readers if the info needs to be imbelished. thanks -Bob

The shell there is indeed nothing unusual, and is quite common. It is the third variation RailBox on the standard 50' plugdoor tooling.
The chassis shown is somewhat interesting though... it is the one designed for the Electronic Sound of Steam car, then subsequently modified back to hold a weight for standard boxcars. I think that "all-black" railbox came out at the same time, but is generally of poor quality, not like the cars I've seen that have that ESoS chassis.
I wonder if the tape is a part number for the weight, if this was the piece used to design it?
Have no idea on production numbers. Why would they tape that to some random item? At the very least, if this was a BN boxcar, you'd have to add a few more digits (and commas) to get an accurate production number. [:P]
