Here's my Tyco story:
I got my first electric trains Xmas '63. One was powered by a Tyco 0-4-0 tender-type switcher. I didn't care much for it, as I was hoping for a road locomotive. It ran fine, but when I told my folks I wanted a brass locomotive, my father had the switcher repainted gold. Big improvement there, Dad...! Anyway, two or three years later, I recieved a Petticoat Junction set, which I really liked.
When I was a teen, I modified, repainted, and weathered the 4-6-0. At the time, the stuff was as common as pet rocks, and it seemed like Tyco would never go away. I guess I can re-bash her again, since she is now a "previously ruined" collectible...
A few years ago, while working as a train repairman, the shop got a sweet Mantua D&RGW bumble-bee ten wheeler, which I bought. And just recently, I got a D&RG twelve wheeler, two D&RGW passenger cars to go with the ten wheeler, and another Hooterville Cannonball loco- all from ebay. Oh, and the Santa Fe & Disneyland set passenger cars, which I love.
So right now, my tastes run mostly to the Rogers 4-6-0s, and 1890s passenger cars to go with them.
