Did these ever make it out to the public or were they prototypes that only showed up in the catalog?
It appears these molds were also used by many companies. Bachmann and Pemco being a couple of the companies. The boys in Hong Kong sure were busy hawking these.

The brand Playart also made these tankcars too. I have a few of them, they are almost identical to the Tyco cars. But with different roadnames. Carl T.

Ah! Playart! THAT'S who made that awful yellow and blue (make green!) Santa Fe tri-dome I had as a kid! (The only thing that survives today, sadly, is one yellow dome in my junk bin...)
I think a better question is... is there even a PROTOTYPE for these beasts?
They'd be nice cars but personally, even as a kid, I just could never get past the lack of a solid side/underframe. Car that big should be sagging like a boiled jumbo hotdog without a metal "bun" to support it...[:P]

NYC- As with Tide, Arm & Hammer, Pillsbury & Oreo...these never did see the light of day.
Also...Bachmann's triple domes are identical to the triple domes we know as Tyco.

ThOR - You know, as much as I generally disfavor "grocery" and "fantasy billboard" cars overall, I do like a few of the well-done ones. And those proto-sample scheme you mentioned are some of the sharpest I've seen. Sad that those were witheld in favor of duckligs like Sara Lee, Cambells and Purina.
It almost makes me wish I had a high-quality scan from which to extrapolate and convert the artwork in Corel draw so I could print my own ALPS decals to make those. I'm not sure the payoff would be worth the investment of time, but man - the Tide, Oreo, and all-blue Pepsi were sharp-looking cars.

| OK, those two paint schemes never made it out to the public. I guess I can stop looking now. BOY, were they hard to find.
