Hi Guys....
Just won a P2K FB Alco and a BL-2...
Got 'em in today....Alco has a dead short and the BL-2 sounds and acts like its got a binding gear....or driveshaft...anyone have similar problems?....Where can I get wiring/parts diagrams?...I can probably fix the short ...but I'll have to do surgery on the BL-2

Thanx

Well
I found the problems....
First off....The Alco is not a P2k...but an Athearn F7a chassis with a HUGE Sagami motor in it...not secured very well...drive shafts are reconnected and wires routed properly....man what a puller....it has a P2K FB body on it....never judge a book uh loco by its cover...as for the BL-2....all 4 axle gears are cracked (similar to a Bachmann 44t problem I had )...all I need is the part number to order 4 new axles.....If anyone can help me with that...that would be cool....
Thanx

Call Walthers Parts dept.
They handle P2K parts.
Athearn wheel sets will drop right in and work fine.

A friend of mine has about 150 P2000 geeps, and about 1/2 of them has cracked gears.
It must be a big problem with those Life/Death Like locos.

Life/Like used to send out free replacement wheelsets no questions asked.
Once Walthers took over the P2K line, You get a run around trying to get warranty parts.
I tried to BUY some P2K parts from Walthers and got a hard time as if I was trying to get over on them or something.
It was right after they bought them out and I suspect they didn't expect to have to dish out free warranty parts to such a degree and got an attitude toward anyone wanting P2K parts.
Hope things have changed.
I've been trying to get the parts through my local Walthers dealer and still can't get them. That's been about a year ago.

Change your name to Rod Stewart. I bet you'll get the whole engine for free. [;)]

The Proto 2000 axle problem is terribly common. The platstic center with the cog that holds the two wheels tends to crack easily.

I too have had problems getting axles via Walthers.

However, certain Athearn wheels are interchangeable and can replace the broken P2K's.

Athearn sells them in bulk, which tends to be more than you might want/need. We sell the Athearn axles in smaller quantity at Doc's Caboose. If anyone is interested in obtaining any, please PM me and I can help you get them. It's an easy fix.

Tony

The part # for the Athearn wheelsets you need is #40019 from 1983 or newer locos.
If you can find just the Athearn gears (#60024) you can ream the hole with a 3/32 drill bit and use them with the P2K wheels.

Ever drop a bowling ball on your pinkie toe?
Ever walk a distance with a tiny pebble in your shoe?
Ever get a tiny gnat in your eye?

oh, congrat's on getting the part.
I was given help by them earlier this year.
Sometimes you gotta give it your best shot, repeatedly, no matter what.
It'll all come clean in the rinse.

Let's not try to split a tiny atom, eh?

Happy New Year!

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.
"I love your catenary!"
Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?
