Thought I would share what a little dosage of Silver Sharpie, and some cheapo walmart acrylic paint, can do:

The two yellow cabs are the old-style "Dodge" originally offered in the late Red Box era, through the 70's. The left one is "stock", the one on the right has been upgraded by removing the grill and opening the grid, painting the grill area on the body balck, painting the interior, adding a stripe (which I scrathed accidentally), coloring the turn signals provided in the mold, and painting the window frames, fuel tanks, and most importantly, the WHEELS!

The "Kenworth" Cab-overs are the late-70's offerings, touched-up much the same way. Unfortunately the lack of an interior is a snag, but one that can be crudely adressed with some dark cardboard inserted in the bottom (so that you can;t see throught the truck).

It's not hard to bring these "Throwaway" toys to a higher standard of fidelity and realism!

Great Train God In Heaven! You've desecrated the sacred near-mint condition Tyco cabs by detailing them!
Now there are only 23,000,000 other "original" examples remaining for collectors...

(great job, they're quite well-done, per usual)

Nice!
I just got inspired to take the red KW COB and make a "B.J. and the Bear" T/T combo, complete with monkey hanging out of the passenger window.

Yeesh. I just dated myself, eh?

The Old Reliable:
BJ and the who?
Oh, yeah. That's right! I remember you know! You're one of the the two old Tycoots who had a thing for Kate's daughters at the Shady Rest Hotel as well...
One of the other "father times,"

I'm thinking of decorating my plaster LeeTown tractor-trailer combos in paint schemes from "They Drive By Night." "Bogie" was socko in that picture! Those Diamond T's--now that's a semi-tractor!

Are they all Yellow? 'Cuz believe it or not, all the ones I ever stumble across are yellow!

And I do know who BJ & the Bear are, but only incidentally. I have a CB in my car if that makes ya'll feel better ;)

Pity that Tyco never made a "Smokey and the Bandit" US-1 set...

My stale effort at age-humor has, evidently, mis-fired. Oh, me.
I don't think anyone offers too much age-appropriate road-stock for "Drive by Night," excepting modification of old Jordan miniature chain-drive Macks.
Regarding your Tyco detailing, however, the K-Whompers in particular are excellent efforts. I'd never really noticed how much the second-generation Tyco cab lends itself to modicifation and detailing. As per usual with the fellas from Jersey, their product is under-appreciated and under-utilized. Your detailed KWs can certainly pass muster with their Athearn, Ulrich/Walthers brethren. Funny how a bit of finely applied paint can significantly diminish the toy-look of the Kenworths in particular.

Or a Mack "Rubber Duck" rig from "Convoy." I still have my C.W.McCall vinyl LP, too! Jeeze Mag, were crusty old crumundgeons, huh?

Yeah... really the only thing the KWs need (aside from an interior) is some stirrups under the sleeper and perhaps a set of mirrors, but those shouldn't be too hard to devise if one were so inclined. The rest of the detailing offered is really quite nice, considering the intended function. And using Sharpies is so much more precise and neat than paint that anyone can do it.

Just make sure you keep two Silver ones handy - one to use gently on the finer details like grabs, horns, and windowrframes; and one whose tip you can use to "bite" for shape against contours like fender flares and smash into things like the wheel wells and hubs to get good coverage. Once you dull and chew a tip there, it's useless on the finer stuff.

BTW the ink in silver sharpies is really more like paint, but wipes off with alcohol. It's GREAT stuff!
