Hello All, I'm usually at the Tyco posts, because that's my thing, but I recall one gift given to me in '76 by my mother--I THINK it was Life-Like. It was an 0-4-0T, dressed in Spirit of '76. I recall it running horribly, and my mom having to exchange it. Now that I'm older, I wouldn't mind finding one. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Photos? Any for sale?

This steamer is fairly common and does appear on eBay with some frequency.

You know Shaygetz has brought up an important criteria for us...if the model doesn't cause some degree of eye strain at first glance and/or make you wince and grimace just a bit...it may not be worth having in your collection. [:O)]

Life Like did not originaly make the teakettle. Before life like Silvine had the dies made and had the same company that Aristo-Craft used for it early die cast steam locomotives. Silvine released this locomotive in a die cast metal version first. On the bottom of the locomotive are the words "new one, japan" just like the Aristo locomotives. Here is a photo of one of mine.

TT: Very interesting! Silvine was owned by Sol Kramer, incidentally.

As can be seen this has a lot to do with our American love for the speedway. Especially the 1/4 mile. I loved to see wheelie cars do their stuff. At the Englishtown raceway one in particular " Hemmi under glass" was thrilling to watch. frank

With the life like Teakettles it is hard to find one that the drive gears (idlers) aren't cracked. frank

I remember as a kid getting the Teakettle in a set at Simpsons (Canadian version of Sears) for 11 bucks. I must have been lucky as this one ran well. It did go pretty fast though...

I have a Bicentennial teakettle that has cracked axle, and idler gears. Anyone have any good ones for sale? The newer gears aren't compatible with the older version.

Just guessing the OP's found themselves one since 2007.
The plastic version's fatal flaw is the drive gear cracks and slips on the axle. Only cure is a replacement, perhaps NorthWest Short Line has something that will work.
