According to Tony Cook's resource page, there is a Conrail Bulkhead car with the orange steel girders. I have only seen this car in USS Steel roadname.
After seeing it on the resource page, I started looking for it, and recently bought a Operating Crane set. I asked the seller if the car inside was Conrail (as depicted on the box). They said it was so I was very excited when I won. It came and, alas, it is a USS Steel car.
I had even rearranged some items on my wall display to place this Conrail in its rightful spot, next to the USS car.
Do I need to put everything back in its original place, or should I hold out hope that there is a Conrail version out there?
Thanks
Scott

Thats funny you mention that because I had offten wondered if that Conrail flat exists myself. After exausting searches one hasnt shown up to this day and would assume they actually never ran that car. I`ve been collecting since 2000 and have asked several other serious collectors over the years and they says their searches have turned up the same results so I would leave the wall display as is. Guess its like the OREO car, you could always paint one but its just not the same I would imagine for all intensive purposes.Maybe someone here on the forum can chime in.

Hi ILUVBUDWSR:
The expression is:
"For all intents and purposes" and is a legal distinction. "Intensive purposes" is a poor oral transformation and contraction of sorts, that has become popular in the late 20th century.
Sorry to get all pedantic on you, but that expression is a pet peeve of mine! [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] No offense meant.

I have a new thought on the Conrail bulkhead.
I believe that USS crane set was developed for, and made its debut with, the "Steel Hauler" train set in 1980 or 1981.
What's important about that, is the Steel Hauler set included a Conrail HOPPER... which was also the very last hopper created, by catalog number.
Maybe Tyco mocked up a conrail car for the steel accessories in development, then decided that the hopper car would be a better substitute for the train set. The hopper is pretty plain itself, but is "bigger" than the flat car.
Also, the USS bulkhead and BN gons for the steel set have unique numbers: 950-2 and 950-3 respectively.
