Ken:
May have saved some of the magazine adverts for this offering. Will dig thru the piffle mountain. Recall "Parade" magazine ad for this steamer quite vividly: usual high-cost installment payment plan per Franklin Mint.
The engine is certainly a Mantua Pacific with added lost-wax castings and that crescent paint. Is that an operating back-up lamp in the tender or just a casting? The Mantua back-up lights generally were a casting that rode atop the water reservoir, as I recall.

ps: have you converted your Tyco/Mantuas to Dublo three rail? (Tee hee!)
Nice track.

hi my main collection is three rail dublo, but to educate the kids i started collecting railways from around the world, mainly steam as its my era, hence interest in tyco/mantua offerings, the rear light is indeed moulded, these locos according to mica (matchbox international collecters association)change hands for about £25 each so told him i would like another ten, have heard nothing since, would be grateful for any info you can give me,thanks ken

Kadee? McHenry? No way, my friend. Why bollocks the works with anything but the vintage Ho collector's friend, the NMRA horn/hook coupler? Kidding... (sorta)

(I haven't unearthed my paper on your gorgeous Crescent yet. The pile is very deep in that sorry and neglected vault.)

Ken:
This is gonna seem kinda dumb, but my inclination would be to repeat the coupler type supplied by the manufacturer of the Crescent's passenger rake.
Asking a long-time collector what he uses is generally going to solicit an answer like "a little bit of everything." We're compelled to make use of a lot of transition cars to couple different types and compose trains. If forced to refit I generally rely on Kadee's old tried and true, I think a Magne-matic No. 5 is what the Mantua tender couopler pocket calls for.
hope that helps, regarding the paper, still digging,
MA
