Hi All,

I picked up a Mantua blue ( teal? ) AT&SF cattle car for $1 today. It has unpainted metal slides for the doors. The number on the car sides is 80680. It says Mantua on the frame bottom with the #3. The trucks are the screw on type with metal center. My question is, What year(s) was it made in?

Thanks
Mike

Hi! Just noticed this old rolling stock topic hadn't gotten a response so I thought I'd chime in.
Your ATSF stocker in teal is one of Tyco's Johnny-come-lately newcomers (tongue planted firmly in cheek). It was one of the new product rollouts in the second year of the "new" Tyco redbox: 1960. The ATSF car was featured prominently in the '60 catalog and bears the catalog asterisk as a "new product" for 1960. So its happy 46th birthday to your ancient and venerable ATSF stocker.
The blue box stock cars were: MoPac, ACL, Katy. 1959 premiered the DRG. In 1960 came your teal ATSF. By 1961 Tyco was dropping stock cars with the ACL offering disappearing.
Your ATSF stocker was a very popular car (color perhaps?), and found its way into many a yellow-box, red-box, white box and late red box Tyco train set.

You're most welcome. And here's hoping you've picked up some more of the early stock cars to add to the Tyco freight drag since acquiring the ATSF...
