Something I recently tried that worked...I've replaced the metal coupler boxes on Tyco/Mantua trucks (after replacing broken couplers) by several methods...re-peening the pin, drilling out the box and using screws, and super glue. Recently, I just put the old pin back through the hole, and put a small drop of solder on top of the pin. It doesn't really stick to the coupler box, but the pins are brass, or some type of metal that the solder does stick to. So the combination of the solder sticking to the pin, and the rest of the little blob holding pressure on the box seems to work. Be sure to clean the surfaces, and use some kind of flux. Chris

Thanks for the tip Chris,
How did you remove the coupler cover?
I have a few Mantua couplers to replace soon.

I used my Dremel motor tool. The cutting disc or grinding stone will work to get the flattened part of the rivet.

I usually just stick a screwdriver in between the top part and the bottom part of the pocket and pop it off. If I find an engine thats missing the top section and pin, I use the top part of a track nail to replace the pin. Then some plastic or cereal box cardboard (depends what I have lieing around) to rebuild the top of the pocket. I know it sounds cheap and flimsy, but it works well, and once you paint it to match the rest of the pocket you can't tell the difference.

What number Kadee coupler did you use to replace the broken MU one?

I have several Mantua motors that all need replacement couplers. I want to convert them over to knuckle couplers...
