It must have come out after I'd grown up and before I had kids because I don't think I've ever seen it before. Could it actually climb walls and jump tracks? How reliable was it?

Hey badun. Tyco's Turbo trains had slotcar motors in them. They used magnets to hold them to the track. I don't have any of the loops or jumps, but I have ran my turbo train on non-magnetic brass track, and it is definitely fast enough to make the loops. I can also put it on a piece of steel track and hold it upsidedown.
Here's another vid that someone shot of their turbo train. It looks like its taking the loops no problem:
That is awesome! Seems like something that would sell well today, also.
Dammit! There's a NIB one on eBay and it's reasonably priced with 5 hours to go on the auction. And, of course, my wide laid down the law just this week - NO MORE TOYS (for me) until after Christmas.
No more toys till after Xmas?? Dude...that sucks. Don't worry though. The turbo trains aren't hard to find on Ebay, and the prices usually stay really low.
