Just finished getting this one restored! The project this time around was Lindsay's "Stubby" diesel yard switcher, which is a tiny all-metal model from the early 50's powered by their famous 7-pole motor. Aside from waiting for paint to dry, it only took me a few hours to get this running and looking like a new engine!

Very nice restoration of a very nice model. In the full-size railroad world, there were numerous small but mighty industrial switchers, and it's nice to see them represented.

It probably isn't a stretch to say Lindsay made the finest HO scale mechanism of that period. I have an FA set by Lindsay and they run just beautifully. Their only downfall was the castings seem quite susceptible to zinc pest.

I believe the bodies are still being made by Hobbytown of Boston. They have both the FAs and the PAs.

Yup, Hobbytown still makes the FA body, so replacements are available if the old body has zinc problems. I fortunately haven't had that problem with any of my Lindsay products, but I do also look at things pretty carefully before buying them since I have seen quite a few that were outright crumbling.

Hobbytown does still make the bodies but..... they don't have the "Lindsay" stamp inside the shell. It's not the same!  Back when I was putting that set together I found that a lot of the A-units available on ebay were bowed and crumbling. The B-units all seemed fine.

| Stubby switchers are my favorite builds, I find them a lot more fascinating than large locos.
