I found this on eBay, and thought it was a custom. I have never seen a Life-Like track cleaner In any other road name than Virginia & Truckee or Great Northern. According to Tony Cook's site, Life-Like never made a PRR track cleaning or searchlight car, so that rules out someone swapping the caboose body. So, what is this then?
The text is printed, is this a repaint by a smaller company (a Bev-Bel situation)?

Here is the bottom, the trucks are screwed on, and has body mounted couplers.

That is the Life-Like track cleaning car. I can't explain the road name, but otherwise it's the same.
There should be a round felt pad about 1/8" thick fastened to the round part on the bottom with a screw.

Were there any other cars or trackside buildings that used the same caboose cabin mold? Someone swapping the cabin from another car makes the most sense, I would think.

I didn't think about accessories, but after going through the list on Tony Cook's site, nothing used the cabin mold. The only 2 things that did were the track cleaning & searchlight car, neither of which had a PRR version.

Did anyone own the tooling before or after Life-Like?

Not that I know of, Life-Like was bought by Walthers, but they haven't released a car using this tooling. As for where the tooling came from, it appears Life-Like "borrowed" tooling from Athearn's work caboose and modified it to be their own.

Is the caboose shell easily removed? Perhaps there is a maker’s mark inside somewhere…
