I'm gonna nab Tony Lucio's F-unit Family Tree and expand upon it...and will try adding pics. Please join in with comments and let's see what we can assemble and I'll make it a website of its own, should it turn out well...

FT-A

ATT (late '60s)

AHM (early '70s) > Bachmann (Late '70s)

F2A

Model Power

F3A
Cox (1975) > Model Power ('80s-Now)

Gilbert ('50s)

Marx ('50s)

Varney ('50s/'60s)

F7A
Globe > Athearn > Highliner > Genesis

Penn Line ('60s) > Varney (Mid-'60s) > Life-Like (1968-Now)

MRC ('90s)

Tyco/ Mantua

Pemco (1980)

Revell ('50s/'60s) > announced by Con-Cor in the late '80s but I don't think they ever brought this shell back.

FP7-A

Atlas ('75) made by Roco > E-R Models ('90s-2000)

F9A

ATT (late '60s) > Life-Like ('early '70s) Model Power ('80s) >TYCO ('90s)

Bachmann (1971)

Playart (late '70s/early '80s)
The Playart F9A is a clone of the Bachmann F9A, but it has stubby ladders, which mirrors a Model Power F9A clone of the Bachmann. Believe both the Playart and Model Power F9A.

Marx had a crude F3.
I seem to remember someone offering an F2, not shure if it was Model Power or someone else.
Varney had 2 F3 styles, the cast metal and the plastid. they were similar but had slight changes in some of the details.
Also don't forget the FT by Bachmann and AHM.

Yes, MARX did have that F3A...and Gilbert had an F3A in HO-Scale in the '50s...both looked somewhat similar to each other and the Varney F3A for that matter.

Model Power calls an F2-A in their current line, what looks like that old MARX F3A.

I'm gonna add and edit my original post with updates.

Hey Tony:

Some pics of my recently aquired FP-7. I don't think the "A" suffix is appropriate as no "B" units were made they used F-7B units in support.
