About 10 months ago or so, I repainted 3 Tyco covered hoppers (one ACF 4 bay and two PS2 3 bays) into an overall flat gray scheme using Testors Flat Light Aircraft Gray enamel.

The cars still need some work, such as truck paint, metal wheelsets, a few details, and either new couplers or entirely new draft gear.

The cars will be lettered eventually, most likely Illinois Terminal or Soo Line (I model the Chicago and Northwestern in Iowa during 1973-1977) so these will fit in nicely.

In the future, I plan to purchase more of these cars and modify them to fit specific prototypes, notably, the PS2s need side work as the number of "braces" on the carsides are wrong for pretty much every PS2 out there, nothing a little styrene won't fix though.

Enjoy!

It's amazing how good they look in proper paint.

I agree 100%, they look really quite good without the boring factory paint and pad printing, especially the PS2s.

Looks very nice, good luck on that whole BnL train! Anyways, I think that its a good idea to use something thats as commonly availiable as the Tyco PS2s and ACF hoppers, thinking about some IT decals for the ACF car and then its off to decal the PS2s for another road, update them with new wheelsets and couplers, and the purchase, mod, and decal more

Here are those decals:
