Although automobiles are advertised the railroad gets to show off its performance.
And gorgeous scenes as well in upstate New York.

Not my photo. Area called The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania.

Taken in 1974 at Pine Creek Gorge Pennsylvania. Tracks are gone but a bike trail is there now.

Cool mint Penn Central models are still out there to be found.

I bought this nice Tyco set at a New Jersey train store a few years ago.

It is ironic that the day after you started this thread, I came across this in Bellevue, Ohio. This would appear to be among the equipment awaiting restoration at the Mad River & Nickle Plate museum. It was on a siding with a bunch of other older cars. It's pretty far gone, with the side panels rusted through, and the engine room empty. But it is a legitimate PC locomotive. A check of the frame number )2055-A7) confirms its identity as EMd serial # 18528, an E8 built in June 1953 as NYC 4070, which later became PC 4321. It apparently last ran on New Jersey transit in the 1980s.
Note the number 4070 spray painted on the side of the locomotive.

Another blue and yellow beauty.

Colors that the New York commuter railroads used in the 1970s.

Very interesting to me, as the PC was going belly up as I was coming of age and pondering a career in railroading. My parents strongly advised against it as the future for any railroad in the Northeast was pretty grim.
However, I did correspond with a fellow who went to work for the PC right after getting out of the Army, maybe around '69. It went under right after he started. He would get laid off repeatedly, but called in to work almost immediately everytime. He ended up having a long and successful career with Conrail.
He said he particularly enjoyed hogging passenger trains, because you didn't have to sit in sidings very often. He also said he ran the PC Turbo train
when it first came out, and recalls it "smelled like a new car."

Seems rare to me. A possible project for you PC fans out there.

Says it was taken in 1976 at Cleveland Ohio. Bicentennial colors right before Conrail.

Imagine a world with no wars. Just peace. And add a world with only one railroad around. I have seen and lived it. Then I woke up and went to work. A tale of two worlds.
