Hi Well the kid is getting bored with the oval that came with the set I bought him. Me and my friend are going to add two 12 inch extensions to the exsisting 4x4 table and a six inch addition in the back.
With the additions the table will be about 56x74 inches with the trim work.
The steel track that we have now is crap needless to say.
What kind of track do you guys recommend ?
He wants the track with the roadbed ...I see there is the Bachmann and the Kato stuff ....are there any others.?
Thanks Bob

Your kid is on the right track--Bachmann / Kato. What ever brand you choose-- Stick with nickel silver rail for best running performance. There are other roadbed track systems. Some are steel track--like the old tyco track--i do not recommend this type as there is constant cleaning of track. If your running enviorment is in humidity--definitly do not buy steel track-it will rust and corrode from the humid conditions. Kato is probably the best on the market-but not for running older equipment as their track is code 83 and older wheel flange depth will bounce on the ties. Buy code 100 such as Bachmanns or life-likes nickel silver rail bed track systems for running of old and new train equipment. Hope this helps

Thank you for the explaining code 100 vs 83. I was about to pull the trigger on a huge amount of Kato track.
The only stuff we are running at this time is mostly all AHM and some Tyco...that track would have been a problem.
Thanks again Bob

There is a seller on E-bay with exceptional prices on huge lots of Bachmann Ez-Track. Stick to the grey road bed stuff of theirs though, as it is the Nickle Silver Code 100, whereas the black roadbed stuff they sell is Steel track. The good thing about Bachmann is that if your son decides he doesn't want to use the road bed track anymore, you can pull the track right off the road bed and nail it down to the layout.
