I have a Tyco caboose - the "modern" design with the angled cupola - the shell of which I am trying to remove. This particular model dates from the early 70s, but Tyco/Mantua had used this design earlier.

The shell is attached to the base with three small tabs - two on one side and one on the other. I'm sure the plastic doesn't have the flexibility it did 50 years ago. Still I am trying to move the tabs without destroying the cab.

Is there an easy trick to this?

Depress the tab on the single side with a jewellers screwdriver. Once that "seal" has been opened you can slide the shell and easily remove the tabs from their slots on the opposing side.

You’re welcome. Glad to help. What brings you open it up- adding window glazing or repainting?

Placing a better shell on the chassis. The one that was connected had gotten kind of beat up.
