Not my photos. Not my layout. I found these online and was impressed by the creativity shown in the design of this layout. He's crammed more into this layout than most people do in an entire room, yet it doesn't look overcrowded.

Thanks for sharing these photos, even if they are not yours. This gives me some ideas for a small layout. The last few photos seem to show a winch that allows the table to be raised into the ceiling. Out of sight, out of mind. Pretty neat.

Yes, the builder did design it to be winched up out of the way, with four cables attached to a garage door motor. He build a box in the ceiling that the layout retracts into, to keep it dust free when not in use.

Another thing you'll notice if you look carefully are the backdrops. Most people paint scenes of distant mountains that tower over the scene, or some other place higher in elevation than the layout. He has painted a couple of scenes where the railroad is at the highest elevation and you're looking at a valley far below painted on the backdrop.

I am actually considering building something like this as an extension off the existing layout. But given the space we have, I'd only be able to access the front side. I'd probably built the layout low, so wifey could watch the trains from her wheelchair. She loves watching the layouts at the train show.

Wow that's a lot in a small space. Nicely done too.
