Wow, check out Set #120 "The Rock". My eyes may be messing with me, but that HAS to be a Tyco ATSF "El Capitan" Boxcar. Look at the black mounting tabs on the side sills.
Thanks for scanning these Tony, these old catalogs bring back some great memories! I totally forgot about the Old West Iron Horse action set. Could you scan that bigger so I can see the details on that?

Sharp eye on that El Capitan boxcar there SilverStreak. I too am intrested in the old west set and would like to find out more about it. I dont ever recall seeing it or the action accessories. Im sure theres a few lurking out there somewhere. I had the Old time set when I was a kid and it was my first set , still have the loco somewhere.

well well... Looking at Sets #'d 145 & 160... I'd say that the names are swtiched around. CB&Q Empire Builder? That would betwixt any rail fan of the Great Northern!
Further the insult by having that [xx(] BN hopper in the consist... Blue Rock of the bureaucratic bumblings of those share holders in the 1970's! "Great Northern 4-8-4" ? [B)] Fe'r shame! blah blah blah... whine...
I'll quit, now... tsk, tsk...

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

The TYCO 50' Plug Door Box Car in El Cap paint in a Bachmann set is curious. Don't know the story on this one.
If you look at my Bachmann site in the Rolling Stock section, there's what looks like the typical TYCO 40' Flat Car in green Western Maryland with 3 Culvert Pipes...but it has what certainly appears to be a legit Bachmann box. Still tracking down samples of these two cars to dig up more information.
The 50' Plug Door Box makes appearances in various Bachmann catalogs beginning in the late '70s and into the 1980s. From the slots in the frame, the car is obviously the TYCO from its looks as the B'mann didn't use slots to attach the underframe and shell.
Could Bachmann have gotten a run of TYCO box cars and/or flats? If so, why? And with the 50' Plug already in the B'mann line why would they bother cloning the TYCO tooling? Curious.
I'll put together a page on the Bachmann Resource for the Old West set. It's introuduced in 1976, if I remember and the line also included a handful of Plasticville Old West kits too. Will post when done.
