* The HO Train Company. Philadelphia Pa.

* The 0-4-0-Camel Back locomotive Many of us have. There is a dilemma here, for there are three different versions of this locomotive that I have seen, that were made. I purchased this locomotive in this box. It may not be the HO trains version as you can clearly see on the box photos one with a different smoke stack and different paint finish. I have seen the locomotive pictured here. I have also seen this locomotive with the smoke stack I have with a all brass tender.

* So I would say that other companies have released similar versions of this locomotive. Also I dont think my locomotive came with this box. But it belongs in this Tyco Forum Topic. It is a Locomotive built be New One.

* Now Aristo-Craft didn't just sell locomotives. Here is their release of a Maintance of the Way
Snow blower. It is made by Pocher of Italy. it didn't come with a tender. I put a Marx switcher tender behind it. it seems to fit.

* Ray has found and shared a Gem of a site . I recognize the building symbol in the upper left corner as the same place I get e-books to read from on trains. I never tried to get photos there. I got to try some searches and see what I can find. It never came up as a source in photo searches, only book searches. .

Frank,
The Mantua tender behind the 0-8-0 looks nice.
Nice locomotives Sean, It's a shame those arch bare tender trucks are so fragile.
They are hard to find in good shape.
I was able to epoxy some back to usable condition.

* Yes Ray, those arch bar trucks do not hold up. The thinness of the castings and the metal used adds to the problem. The tyco arch bar trucks used on the 4-6-0 and 4-8-0 tenders look good under those tenders.
* Sean , Your Thomas Rogers has the Chicago and Rock Island Road name. I haven't seen that road name very often. Most I have seen are the Philadelphia and Reading. With these engines being over 50 years old now a lot have succumb to age, poor storage, as well as bad casting material. Most of these engines are of types built in the 19 century, Before and after the Civil war. All when built, were selected as historic locomotives of a long gone era. The smallness of their boilers shows they were built for running on the very light rails of their day. These models of famous old timers , add a unique visual presents to any HO scale layout. I hope they wind up in collections of skilled determined restorers, and receive the attention needed to preserve them.

Thanks Frank,
I always thought that 0-8-0 looked odd with the slope back tender and like how they look with the Mantua tender.
I concidered changing the tender on mine untill I found the photo of the prototype photo of it. (I'll do it with the next one I find)
I was wondering if all the Aristo Craft locomotives have a specific prototype.

Nelson ; For Aristo -Craft that is a good one. After some oil, run it for a few minutes if it will go. Sometimes they pick up speed once warmed up. Mine still run.

I've never seen some of those Aristo locomotives. I'm a sucker for period locos, and Moguls especially. The 2-4-2 and 4-2-2 are neat little pieces though. Not wheel arrangements you see to often.

Nice, the Columbia is one of my favorites. I've always wondered why these locos never got more attention than they did, considering the wide variety that Aristocraft offered in the late 50s and early 60s. -Thomas

** A service note that should improve the operation of The new one locomotives. This is for the people who run these engines. The drive gear is enclosed on most of these engines under the frame. The clearance is almost non existing. A 90 deg. edge faces crossing tracks at switches and crossovers. Another obstacle is rerailing tracks. Many times this box just slides on the raised surface of the rerailers lifting the locomotive, losing contact and the loco stops, or derails.
* I have easily removed this enclosure with a Dermal style tool and cutting wheel. I only do this to problem locomotives.

I restored one of the Camel back models. Unforgettably mine had a bad motor. I found that a Mantua 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 shifter chassis fits the model. You just need to enlarge the hole under the stack. I placed a piece of electrical tape on the front inside of the boiler to prevent shorting of where some parts touch. In the end it has become one of my smoothest small locomotives. I would have preferred restoring it to its original state but I had a set of Mantua running gear with no shell and a engine with no running gear. In the end it cam out real well.

Aristo-Craft does G-gauge and large scale these days so far as I know. As for the dies, who knows; they could be sitting somewhere in Japan, but it's more likely that once they were obsolete they were scrapped.

Had an AristoCraft Atlantic when a boy. Always liked these engines so about a year ago started collecting them. I have at least one of each they put out except the 2-8-2. Surprising that so many still in fine condition still exist. Could be the display box they came in.

Wow....that is a great looking tower. I don't know how prototypical it is but I'd put that on my layout any day.

I always ask any seller of these Aristo HO engines to please wrap engine and tender well with padding when shipping. If left in that display box during shipping the tender trucks or other items often arrive broken.

** It took a long time to get this boxed loco. I see it in the past with very big prices on it. It wasn't cheep but it was reasonable. I have a few of the locos already. Two I repainted for the CRR of NJ 's Old commuter locos of the late 1850's and early 1860's. I used the original names " Hornet" and " Wasp ". The only thing this loco doesn't have that the real locos of this type had was a pilot on the tender end. When used in early passenger service, they were referred to a " Double ended " Locomotives. When at the end of the run, the loco would disconnect from the train, switch tracks run down to the rear of the train, recouple to what was the last car, and run in reverse all the way back to the station they started at. The 0-4-0 Double Ender was replaced by the 2-4-2 as a Double ender. From here the type grew all the way up to the " Hudson " Suburban type, 4-6-4 on the CNJ. This name would disappear for a number of years then reappear again . The new name back then would be " Suburban type ". Some camelback type locomotives assigned to short Passenger runs had pilots applied to the rear of the tender for running in reverse.

** My boxed teakettle by Silvine. A New One locomotive.

Did anyone know they made a rotary snow plow kit? The rubber band around the rear axles was supposed to spin the blade.

Nelson do you want to know how those parts go together to make it work. Also are you going to the Greenberg train show this weekend at Somerset NJ.

I have an Aristo-Craft Rogers 2-6-0 that belonged to my grandfather. It is missing the three brass "domes" along the center of the engine (apologies, I have no idea of their correct mechanical name). Any suggestions on possible modern replacements parts? Or am I stuck trolling ebay looking for junker parts? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same thing and am missing the tender, I was literally going to post about it like 2 days ago when I found the thing (it had gotten buried in some boxes). I've had absolutely no luck finding original parts of any sort for the Thomas Rogers, so you're pretty much limited to coming up with newer replacements - or making some from styrene, if you're up to the task - unless you're really lucky.

A 2-4-2. Very nice runner:

This has a older square can style Rivarossi motor in it. Runs so much better. Gotta redo the mount one day as the motor climbs around.

4 art skull; a 2-6-0 is a mogul. These 2-6-0's are models of ones made by the Rogers MFG Co. Patterson NJ. The first one made by Rogers was made with input for the Railroad who ordered it. The New Jersey Railroad and transportation. The master mechanic from the New Jersey railroad helped design this loco. and it was the first made by Rogers.

The 2-6-0 Rogers is the only Aristo loco that comes in different road names, P&R as seen here, Chicago Rock Island, Union Pacific, Central Pacific, and Camden and Amboy. Those are the five I know about.

Here is the Aristo - Craft Thomas Rogers Mogul 2-6-0 Old Time Locomotive I got at the last Greenberg train show in Edison NJ. A very clean loco, still nicely finished. It is done for the Philadelphia and Reading railroad.

One of my favorite Aristocraft HO locos from the "old days" was the Camelback. Many of these engines did not fare well through the ages.
