RE-FRESHED SEPT 11TH 2011 / Sept 11th 2013
These were issued 1 yr after Sept 11 2001 by Atlas. Atlas sent out a proposal of 4 different designs for the caboose. A vote was taken and narrowed down to one design. If i remember correctly-the only ones who could vote for the design were the ones who paid in full for the caboose or made a deposit-non refundable. This is the caboose they issued

| It was a nice effort on their part---but--kind of disappointing if you think about it. If it weren't for the car number, you'd think it was a bicentennial issue. There's no real reference to the event it was supposed to commemorate. There are three official seals that I know of that could have been used on there. I don't know, maybe I'm being picky, just putting my thoughts out there. Do they make note of the events on the box?

Hey Shay, Guys:
I'm afraid Shay's right.
There needs to have been Towers, a Pentagon, and a "93" It's way too General. This was this generations Pearl Harbor, it's own day of infamy and that needs specificity.
However I was unaware of this model and I appreciate Brian bringing it to my attention.

Yes, thanks for bringing it to our attention. I'm sure one of the main reasons for being non-specific is that it would require more legal work to print the Pentagon , Towers, and 93 info on it these days. With a more general design, it was probably easier to get released. Maybe now, after 10 years, they could do a more specific art to show the history.

Hi Folks, I agree with Jerry. Some one needs to bring out a car or something for our hobby so we never forget that day. Its been 10 years but to some it could have been yesterday. We in Canada lost people too and were there to help any way we could like a good neighbor should. I am proud to be Canadian and proud of the Canadian people who did come to the plate and open their homes and their hearts to help. My prayers are with those who were lost and to those who carried on . Ken

| Thanks for replies - Shaygetz - I will dig it out and look -can't remember. I agree -should have been done with images of the day as they stood before the events that un-folded.

Hmmmm,
Something GIC'ers mayhaps tackle....
I think model trains are a wonderful "touchstone" of history, like a HO scale Forrest Gump.
I have a 2003 NMRA Canada convention 50' box car an Atlas. They were done special for that convention BUT we had a "SARS" outbreak that spring-Fall and so no one came, well went, I was living in Jersey at the time. So it's a bit historical but a 9/11 car and a 10th Anniversary one are appropriate.... i think...

I can't get very excited over this piece. But I never buy items to this nature anyway.

That caboose reminds me of this old Muscle Machines car from 2002 that they painted in US colors for the same purpose as the caboose. (Yes, I like diecast cars too. Don't worry, I'm still into trains.) Here's a picture of mine.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."
