That paint work is....something. I've been custom painting for decades using lacquers, decals, and dullcoat. Paint markers and stick on letters may be a little over my head.

Well some of us live in the middle of nowhere, in an environment too cold for outdoor painting from November to May, in a house too small for even my own layout. I'm making do with what I got, and it's certainly not the worst I've seen.

Thanks was! This summer I plan to learn how to airbrush. With a little practice I think I will be able to make some highly realistic models. I can't wait!

I tried a gloss sealant. It could've gone better, it could've gone worse.

Why not? Both Bachmann and Tyco made freight cars in glossy colors. I think it's fine.

in model rocketry they recommend not to use gloss, as gloss paint scales down to semi-gloss or matte
I assume the same thing with any scaled down models, and I sort of agree with the mentality

In model railroading, one tries to avoid things being shiny. On some of the great layouts, like the Gorre and Daphetid, nothing shined that didn't have to. It looks less toylike. I think part of it is that real railroad equipment loses its gloss about the time you stop smelling wet paint.
The regular expensive model paints have the pigment ground finer than regular paints and that helps the flat paint scale down. I've noticed that the use of some craft paints makes the paint job look pretty coarse.
Interestingly, water slide decals stick better on gloss paint, so modelers who use them usually use gloss paint and then apply decals. When all is finished, they apply a flat finish like Dullcoat.

I mean, if I wanted an super detailed realistic HO layout I for darn sure wouldn't use old ho. I'd probably try to figure out DCC. But truthfully I hate DCC. It's kinda jinky from what I's seen of it besides I collect tyco PT units just for that shiny gloss look. I live by a Canadian National mainline. I'm sick of dirty old ratty locomotives. That's why I I don't weather things.

Anyway, my project yesterday wasn't really a paint project, more an update to the "workshop". Here's my new bookcase that I installed yesterday. I implemented some lighting just so I can display my big boy locomotive.

Thanks to RP, I got two project units up and running once again. I still have some tuning to do on the E7, but it's running alright for now. The C630 I have a special plan for.

I am thinking I have a scrap building that might make a good Armodillo Chow plant...Ran some more P&L this morning, after work. It was a sweet interlude. Internet is acting badly, so may not be able to post for a couple of days.

It's been a busy week so far, and today I got a few more little things knocked out of the park.
I got my new shop switcher a little farther done today, and I am quite pleased with the result.

I also completed an FBI car for Armadillovile

I was thinking that as well, but it just didn't look right that way either. I like how it looks in general. I'll have to do a death star unit if I ever pick up an old life-like GP40.

Here's my unit tonight after finishing the right side and glossing it. I also designed and cut a portable rerailing device for the side of it as well. I have. a horn figured out for it, and I may even have some handrails lined up to in the future.

Forgive how crude this thing is so far. I'm only about halfway through bodywork on it. I need some supplies first.
Here is my Ex Tyco RML SD24, that I have traded noses from a Santa Fe GP20 with. Currently I'm in the process of trying to repair the nose a little. I have to get a file and some putty to finish.

The "portable rerailing device" mentioned is technically a rerail frog. Any plans to install handrails on any of these things?

Rerailer is a rerailer. I couldn't think of the name at four in the morning. The C630 yes I have handrails, SD24... If I can find a junker for like nothing on the site. I'm making ground on the SD24 today.

Here's my new Chop Nose Tyco SD24 upon completion. I took off work early because of a snow/ice storm that's currently moving through. I picked up a set of files, got this unit cleaned up, and got it finished up.

Here's a little project I completed today for RP.

The number 3388 is quite fitting, as the chemical structure for propane consists of 3 carbon atoms and 8 hydrogen atoms, hence the formula of C3H8. Since C and H are the 3rd and 8th letters of the alphabet, the number 3388 fits this car perfectly.
