Back when I started my first actual train layout in N-Scale, about 6+ years ago, I bought several kits and assembled them myself, with hot glue. One of these was the N-Scale Blue Coal Depot kit, and it looked awesome on the first layout.

The layout was dismantled a long time ago, the table was then used for RETRO TYCO I, and the buildings were all stored on my parts cart and inevitably destroyed.
Today, for some reason, the coal depot came back into my memory, and after searching thru the parts cart, I found all the pieces.....deciding to put it back together, and place it on the Santa Fe Paradise layout.

After some hot glue work, I then got inspired to "weather" it with black acrylic paint, and the final result is phenomenal in my opinion. I just love the look!

I then completed the mini scene by adding black sand. It's great to have the old coal depot building back again....and now on its forever home.

Black acrylic paint. That is a fine weathered coal mine.

Looks good! It's great you can take an early piece (to you) and incorporate it back in to a current layout. Most of the buildings from my original layouts have survived in some form or another.
