Long time no post. Sorry just have been super busy with work (6 days a week). I’ve working on a super big kit project that I plan on having finished within 2 weeks (maybe).
Anyways, I picked up a Marx train set for $40 that had this engine. I’ve always wanted a 666. It was seized but after some basic maintenance it runs like a top. The double reduction motor provides for excellent pulling power and surprisingly good slow speed operation.
Anyways the bell on this one was broke off so I drilled and filed out the area where the old one was and replaced it with a Lionel switcher bell. I then painted the actual bell brass.
It’s a very small and simple repair but I figured you guys would enjoy seeing it.
Drilled my initial hole here and filed the rest out
First successful fit. I wanted the fitment to be a sort of “press in” fit only. No glue here. I would test fit the bell after each run of the file.
 Mounted and painted.
 Head on shot.

Thanks everyone.
I love the design of the Marx 666. The excellent drivetrain , the hooded headlight, the comically large plow.
If you’re interested in beginning in o gauge you can find these engines for next to nothing.
